It was in about 630 AD that Amr Ibn al-As arrived in Oman bearing a letter from the Prophet to Abd and Jaifar, the two sons of al-Julanda, who ruled Oman jointly. THE FIRST BONAIREANS by Jay B. Haviser, 1991, Reports of the Archaeological-Anthropological Institute of the Netherlands Antilles, No. 10, Curacao
    Summay Compiled by Jerry Ligon
To summarize the prehistoric cultural background for Bonaire, we note the first humans arriving on the island at about 1400 B. C.. These hunter-gatherer-fishing peoples, were a small familistic group who had moved from Curacao to Bonaire. These Archaic peoples did not know of agriculture, nor how to make ceramics, and they had a loosely structured, basically egalitarian social system. Their primary areas of resource exploitation on Bonaire were at Lagun, around Lac, and at Gotomeer.
At about 470 A. D., the First Ceramic Age peoples arrived in Bonaire. These people had ceramics, agriculture, and a more complex social system than the Archaic Age peoples, whom they probably met on Bonaire. These Ceramic Age people had begun their long journey at about 200 B. C., near the confluence of the Middle Orinocco and Apure rivers. . . to the Caribbean Sea. By 470 A. D. at least a small group of them had reached Bonaire. As generations passed, and the Archaic peoples were absorbed into the Ceramic Age live ways , villages of the Ceramic Age peoples were established at Wanapa, Amboina and Put Bronswinkel, with large work camp centers at Sorobon and Fontein. During this early Ceramic Age period, some of these probable Ocumaroid peoples moved from Bonaire west, to initially colonize Curacao yet they did not reach as far as Aruba.

The Caribbean Cooperation between the JCF, JDF and CET resulted in several large seizures of drugs, including multi-ton shipments of cannabis in containers at the ports. Cocaine seizures, however, were lower than in 2001 and 2002. In April, the JCF located a clandestine laboratory, seizing approximately 44 kilograms of cocaine along with chemicals used in its production, the first such discovery by Jamaican law enforcement. The JCF also made the largest hashish oil seizure in Jamaica’s history, seizing a record 1.620 metric tons secreted in a concrete bunker. In 2003, the GOJ seized 1.586 metric tons of cocaine, 36.6 metric tons of cannabis and 1.897 metric tons of hashish oil. The GOJ eradicated 444.6 hectares of cannabis, far short of the eradication goal of 1,200 hectares agreed to in the Letter of Agreement between Jamaica and the U.S. under which the U.S. is providing counternarcotics assistance to Jamaica. The exercise tested the DR’s joint command and control abilities as well as its military’s capacity to assist the DNCD in true joint fashion. The Dominican military took important steps to bolster its future counternarcotics capability through significant equipment procurement. Its acquisitions included renovation of six aging patrol craft, construction of two new 110-foot coastal patrol ships under commercial contract with a U.S. company, and fourteen helicopters, including six designed for operations over water, all scheduled to arrive in F ... The History
During the course of its history, Oman has been known as Magan, Mazoon and Oman. According to evidence found in cuneiform writing, the name Magan was connected with the ancient shipping and copper smelting industries. The Mazoon name was connected with the country's prolific freshwater resources, whilst the name Oman stems from the migration of Arabic tribes from a place called Oman in Yemen. Some sources believe that the name itself originates from Oman bin Sabaa bin Ibrahim, son of the Prophet Abraham.
Oman was one of the first countries to embrace Islam voluntarily during the era of the prophet Mohammed, praise be upon Him, who sent Amr bin Al-As to the current kings of Oman, Gaifar and Abd, sons of the recently deceased Al Jalandi bin Al Mustakbir, calling on them to embrace Islam. Oman, under the leadership of the two Al Jalandi brothers, responded positively to the call, and since then has become a confirmed part of the Islamic world, helping to spread the faith overseas, especially in east and central Africa.
In 1507 AD the Portuguese invaded a series of Omani coastal towns, including Qalhat, Quriyat, Muscat and Sohar. As a result of strong resistance from the Omanis the invading forces were unable to extend their influence to inland areas.

Historically, the Sephardim together with the Protestant administrators and land owners, constituted the elite of the island. The Protestants were the direct descendants of the Dutch officers and employees of the Dutch West India Company, who had settled here in the course of time. The mass of the population was made u of the slaves imported from Africa and their descendants, some of which freemen, all having been baptised into the Roman Catholic faith by missionaries from the Spanish Main and from Holland. Even so, it is only in 1825 that the Jews wxere legally emancipated. They then became eligible to hold functions in government. For more than a century, however, Sephardim had often been appointed to official committees and, especially, diplomatic missions to neighbouring countries because of their knowledge of foreign languages and their negotiating skills.
