  • Blessed are those who have fixed their gaze on the realm of glory and have followed the commandments of the Lord of Names. Blessed is he who in the days of God will engage in handicrafts. This is a bounty from God, for in this Most Great Dispensation it is acceptable in the sight of God for man to occupy himself in a trade which relieveth him of depending upon charity. The craft of every craftsman is regarded as worship.
  • One of the names of God is the Fashioner. He loveth craftsmanship. Therefore any of His servants who manifesteth this attribute is acceptable in the sight of this Wronged One. Craftsmanship is a book among the books of divine sciences, and a treasure among the treasures of His heavenly wisdom. This is a knowledge with meaning, for some of the sciences are brought forth by words and come to an end with words.
  • God grant that thou wilt exert thine utmost to acquire perfections, as well as proficiency in a craft.

Share your artistic talents - teach an arts and crafts group to youth in a shelter setting (the Bridge)
Last updated on May 16, 2005 Clients at the Bridge are here to work on goals such as family relationships and stress management. While here we would like to provide them with fun activities and a chance to learn new skills. You can help us by sharing your creativity with the youth. We would provide arts and crafts supplies if you can supply the time and ideas! (However if you have any supplies to donate those are always welcome!) The schedule is flexible - one day a week or one day a month - daytime or evening available. Volunteers would need to meet for an interview and background check. You must also provide proof of a negative TB test within the past 3 years. Sonoma Independent MetroActive Central Archives Feeling Crafty How one parent endeavors not to teach her children the fine art of crafts By Gretchen Giles I AM A BAD MOTHER. I'll admit it. Not that the kids are starving or being beaten or forced to sleep outside in the rain or denied schooling or hugs or books or videos or tree forts or popsicles or garden plots. They have all of those things. To borrow from Judith Viorst, what makes me a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad mommy is crafts . You know, those happy moments that the magazines assert should be spent together as a family unknotting yarn, catching uncapped glue bottles as they edge off the table, and scrubbing ink off the walls. All the while trying to confine the glitter merely to the reaches of the entire spread-out protection of the Sunday paper, keep the egg dye from turning khaki with mixtures, and refereeing the inevitable brawl over the single red crayon left in the box. Take this small test to determine if you are a similarly bad parent:

Composition: A Series of Exercises in Art Structure for the Use of Students and Teachers Word of Dow's teaching methods spread widely, not only through his teaching and writing, but also through the work of his students, many of whom later became art instructors themselves. As art training became a part of kindergarten, elementary, and high-school education, and more women began looking for careers that would use their artistic skills, students sought out programs such as those at Pratt Institute and Columbia University which emphasized practical skills in design and the decorative arts as well as teaching qualifications. Dow's lasting contribution was to teach art with an eye to both beauty and utility. His converts were many and his methods gave form and direction to American Modernist thought. Support for the exhibition has been provided by the National Patrons of The American Federation of Arts. It is a project of ART ACCESS II, a program of the AFA with major support from the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund. The exhibition's presentation at Stanford is made possible by the Center's Exhibitions Fund in American Art, established in 1997 by an anonymous donor.
