Message from the Chairman
Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Vanderbilt University . We are the largest department in the School of Engineering Our department is a dynamic and growing community of scholars active in most of the principal areas of our field. Our faculty is diverse and participates in many interdisciplinary initiatives. The two largest research areas within the Department are the Institute for Software Integrated Systems and the Institute for Space and Defense Electronics . These Institutes include about one-third of the Department faculty, as well as a large number of professional staff who are engaged in leading-edge research of significant importance to critical commercial and government systems. Other significant research programs include diamond and carbon-based nanotechnology robotics and human-computer interactions medical image processing artificial intelligence computer graphics and animation ... systems engineering , and materials science . Our curriculum reflects the breadth of these exciting and timely research programs, which provide our graduates with an excellent preparation for a wide variety of careers. As you navigate through these pages, you will see why I am excited about the future of our department.

BSc (Hons) Artificial Intelligence
This degree programme is one of several offered by The University of Manchester's Department of Computer Science; a department internationally recognised for both its teaching and research. This degree takes advantage of the modular structure of degrees within the University to combine a study of the basics that underlie all computing with specialist studies in the area of artificial intelligence which includes psychology An independent assessment of this programme by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) rated the quality of the student experience during this programme as excellent (the highest possible grade). An explanation of this and the full report are available. The Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the British Computer Society (BCS) accredit this programme. This accreditation means that successfully completing this programme fulfills the academic requirements associated with becoming a member of these institutions.
