After helping people with their feline behavior problems since 1990, we began to realize that there were a few common issues that all cat owners seemed to be asking us. We took those common problems, broke them down into various subcategories, and posted our solutions on this page. This archive is by no means the complete listing of every possible feline problem, but we figured that this would be a good place for all of you to start. If you have a specific question, or are unclear on a topic listed here, please contact us

General Quilting Instructions
For the Beginner
Read all directions carefully. Steps are given for several piecing and appliqué techniques. Refer to the sections which apply to your chosen project. Pre-wash all fabrics and iron. Do not use fabric softener, as it will make your fabrics limp and harder to work with. Fabric starch can be used to make the fabric easier to work with.
Cutting Shapes for Piecework
Pattern templates are prepared by tracing all shapes needed for piecework on template plastic or other stiff material. Accuracy is very important. Templates are traced without the 1/4" seam allowance for traditional hand piecing and with the seam allowance included for the machine piecing approach. When using a template, lines will be marked on to the wrong side of the fabric. The template is then removed and you will cut according to your chosen piecing method. For hand piecing you will be marking your SEWING lines on the fabric, and will cut 1/4" AWAY from these lines. For machine piecing your shapes will already include the seam allowance, and you will be marking your cutting lines. Cut directly on the lines drawn. "Template-Free" cutting is done by trimming out your required shapes, with an exact 1/4" seam allowance included, using rotary cutting tools. In many cases strips of fabric will be cut, from selvage edge to selvage edge, at a determined width and then "crosscut" into rectangles, squares and triangles. Fold fabric in half, matching salvage edges, for easier cutting. With this approach, you will not need to cut a template for most shapes. Lines may then be added 1/4" IN from the cut edge for hand piecing.

PROJECT SUMMARY
This project seeks to develop and explore the use of advanced constraint-based techniques in the production of user interface software. Constraints as a general computational technique allow the declaration of a set of relationships that are to hold between entities. A constraint satisfaction system is employed to automatically ensure that these relationships hold under changing conditions. This allows the programmer (or user interface implementor) to specify, at a relatively high level, what is to happen, while relying on the system to automatically determine how these requirements are to be carried out. A subset of constraint techniques (primarily propagation-based techniques often called one-way and multi-way constraints) have been employed in user interfaces for some time. These techniques have been recognized as extremely useful in implementing several aspects of a typical advanced user interface including:

Some simple techniques in making your website accessible
by Andrew Pae, Technical Coordinator at the ADAPTS Office Web accessibility has been the latest buzz around campus lately. The following information is provided so that those interested in web accessibility can receive a brief overview of some of the simple techniques in making a website accessible. These suggestions will not force you to make a complete overhaul of your existing website. In many instances, there may be a few areas in your website that need adjusting in order to be compliant.

Smear test (cervical smear)
The smear test (cervical smear, pap smear) is a screening test which allows doctors to predict those women who are likely to develop cancer of the neck of the womb (carcinoma of the cervix) in time to prevent it developing.
Background
Cancer of the neck of the womb (carcinoma of the cervix) is one of the commonest cancers affecting women. It causes a significant number of deaths each year. It has been found that looking at a tiny number of the cells from the neck of the womb (cervix) allows us to predict those people who are likely to develop cancer later on. Looking at the cells in this way is called cervical cytology.
Target population
The women most at risk of cancer of the cervix are those who are or have been sexually active, and in the UK, women between the ages of 25 and 65 are offered the opportunity of a cervical smear at regular intervals - three yearly between 25 and 49, and five yearly between 50 and 64.
Procedure
The sample for the test is taken by a doctor or nurse, who examines you internally. Sometimes this will involve you lying on your back, with your legs bent up and apart, and sometimes lying on your side with your legs bent up.

This is the personal website of Rob Nowik. The purpose of this site is to provide a hub of information and resources that I find of use to myself, and will hopefully be of use to other people. I intend to develop this site as a directory of high quality resources, including open source / freeware products developed by myself (Rob Nowik). This site also contains some information about myself, my interests and work, which is hopefully not too boring!
I am interested in audio programming and development, and have written various audio utilities in C++ such as a wavform splitter (for slicing beats). I have produced various audio related documentation (see the wav file format and fourier analysis documents for example). All software and text on this site is freely redistributable (although please credit Robert Nowik where used). I am also in the process of learning to program games in C# and am currently working on an 3D puzzle game.
My main professional programming language is php, however I have increasingly been programming in C#, and have developed several Windows applications. I have built a image manipulation GUI application aimed at allowing users to prime images for use on websites. The focus was kept on usability so persons with little knowledge of manipulating images don.t get baffled by the functionality offered by photoshop etc. I have also developed data management software (windows GUI application dot net xml classes).

Our most recently completed research project focused on learning more about the knowledge and skills base that undergraduate students have as they enter respiratory physiology and how this knowledge and skills base matches the expectations of faculty. Our current research extends this work to other areas of physiology and examines ways in which faculty can best help students correct their misconceptions and develop problem solving skills. Previous projects dealing with active learning and appropriate use of technology in the classroom have been reported in various publications and monographs.
To help students learn various aspects of physiology, our members have developed software, problem books, and textbooks. To help faculty, we conduct workshops focused on promoting an active learning environment. These workshops have been held at national and international meetings as well as at contracting institutions. The PERC website is best viewed in a browser capable of displaying frames.
