Need some help with your American History lessons? Take a peek at my lesson plans and ideas.
My first year teaching I was dying to see other teachers' plan books, but most of them were either blank or didn't seem suitable for our students ("high-risk" with poor reading skills). After teaching American history to 8th graders for a few years, I've developed this webpage in the hopes that it can help first year teachers get an idea of what to do, or help out some experienced teachers freshen up some lessons. Just to let you know, my "at-risk" students have the same passing rate on the history portion of the state standardized exam as the "advanced" students.

CLASS PROCEDURE
Here's the procedure for every day starting week 2:
  • Students come in, grab their notebook, and answer the warm-up question on the top left side of the back of the next page. As soon as the bell rings, they have 5 minutes. If they finish, they raise their hand, and I stamp it. (When I grade their notebooks, 3 stamps amount to 1 point of extra credit.)

Welcome to the Three Wise Monkeys book of lessons ideas. Here you will find online lesson plans, games, exercises and activities for teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) written by JET Programme Assistant Language Teachers in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. If you can read this, it means the programme you're using doesn't support frames. Like, maybe it's an old browser you inherited from your great, great, great grandfather. Or maybe you're trying to print, or edit using Microsoft Word, which can't deal with frames. Doubtless Mr. Gates is giving this problem his full attention, but in the meantime you should be able to get by selecting "no frames". (Follow one of the links below.) Alternatively, maybe you're a search engine. In which case, dozo yoroshiku onegai shimasu. Go to the introduction page. (No frames) See a complete index (No frames)

    Portrait of a Digital Native
I just wanted to give a hearty congratulations to my colleague Tom McHale who has an article in this month's Technology and Learning magazine titled " Portrait of a Digital Native ." Tom took over most of the journalism courses here at Central after I got my supervisory role a couple of years ago, and he's continue to move it into the realm of the Read/Write Web with great skill. I know it sounds kinda silly, but I'm really proud of what's he's accomplished. In his post today, Tom posts some goals he's set out for his teaching this year, and I think they are definitely worth noting: -to honor the knowledge that students and their parents can bring to the classroom -to find ways to make the learning more meaningful to them by offering them choices and giving students the tools needed to take control of their learning. -to provide opportunities for collaboration with different communities of learners, educators, and experts in the field

With five months til the summer games in Athens, teachers looking for curricular tie-ins are already rearing to go. The XXVIII Olympiad returns the games to its home of Athens, and it's a great chance to energize your classroom with all the possibilities for Social Studies, Language Arts, Math, Health and Science. There are several popular approaches teachers take in presenting a unit that prepares students for the summer games:
    • Have students research the history of the games, its traditions, past memorable moments and significant athletes
Have students research the city in which the games take place, give them each a travel budget, and have them develop individual itineraries to attend the games based on the budget they have
Have students research the events of the games, their nation's athletes participating in each event, and create a medals tracking sheet they can use to track their athletes while following the games over the summer

English is now an international language and almost all students learn English at secondary schools around the world. Most of them are taught by non-native speakers of English like me, some of whom including myself might have complaints about the current system of teaching English in their countries as well as having trouble teaching their students English.
I would like to run this site so that you would be able to get information on English teaching situation in various countries and exchange opinions and ideas on EFL with teachers in other countries. you would be able to take a virtual tour of secondary schools in various countries and understand the students' life at school and their annual school events. your students would be able to exchange mail with students in other countries.
