Teaching The Caterpillar to Fly Ideas about managing change and personal growth,
including a simple training toolkit you can use with others.
by Scott J. Simmerman, Ph.D.
Read some poems on Butterflies and Transformations Steven Wright got it correct when it comes to change when he supposedly said, "I have a microwave fireplace at home. You can lay down in front of the fire all night in eight minutes." Sometimes we expect microwave fireplace results when it comes to improvement and change. But improvement is never fast; it depends on the creation and realization of new possibilities and occurs with some amount of trial and error. Generally, everyone has unrealized potential. Improvement is about understanding and capturing ideas and possibilities, reformulating and restructuring those ideas into a usable form and then transforming them into actions and behaviors. This unrealized organizational and individual potential can be coached and supported and individuals generally need the support and coaching of others in order to be successful. But there can be a number of issues and difficulties. The situation reminds me of a story: Two caterpillars are conversing and a beautiful butterfly floats by.

Teaching Unit for Madeleine L’Engle A Wrinkle in Time and A Wind in the Door A Wrinkle in Time Author: Madeleine L’Engle Publisher, Date: Reading Level: 5th Grade Pages: Awards: Newbery Medal Book ALA Notable Children’s Book Summary: A Wrinkle in Time is the story of three children: Meg Murry, her younger brother Charles Wallace, and Calvin O’Keefe, a popular athlete at Meg’s school. With the assistance of three mysterious ladies, Mr. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which, the three embark on a journey to find Meg’s father, a scientist who has disappeared while exploring the existence of a tesseract- a wrinkle in time. The children travel to the planet Camazotz, where they encounter a zombie population controlled by a disembodied brain named It. The story combines theology, fantasy, and science in a story of time and space travel and the power of good over evil. The value of a close, loving family is emphasized. Other books in the series are Swiftly Tilting Planet, Wind in the Door, and Many Waters. Each of these books "stand alone". These books can be considered as companion pieces, rather than sequels.

    Too young for glasses?
Starring: Elyssa Vasquez, Samuel Omane, Kason Robinson,
With special thanks to their families!
We know that it is difficult to obtain diagnosis and actual measurement of vision in young children. However, if a vision impairment is identified which can even partially be corrected by use of prescription lenses, there is no reason to wait! Even the youngest child can learn to wear glasses!
Although prescription for eyeglasses and/or eye patching is never too early, it can be too late (especially in regards to eye-patching , which, if not done soon enough, results in vision loss.) However, there is little information available to families in support of eyeglasses and patching. Most children struggle against use of glasses and/or eye-patching, especially when forced. The resulting conflict impacts on family relationship and often results in failure (the family abandons efforts.) Their efforts require not just days, weeks or months, but years. With gentle, respectful teaching and encouragement by the family, successful use increases and progress advances!
The ideas you'll find here were suggested by families and teachersplease feel free to share your own experiences and ideas.
