When you are considering a commissioned art piece (personal or corporate art), Pearson's Studio can offer you a wide range of service from design to fabrication of steel sculpture, leather carving, wood carving, or a combination of different materials combined into a commissioned art piece. As an artist, quality, originality, and versatility have become the hallmarks of my work in direct metal art, sculpture, steel sculpture, silversmithing, custom designed jewelry, wood carving, leather carving, and bone carving. The effects of the visual arts for many people is a subliminal stimuli for the enrichment of a soul. For others, the appreciation of art rises to the full consciousness of mind, body, and soul.
My cross explorations of various materials has given birth to an almost limitless ability to execute steel sculpture or sculpted shapes directly into any selected material. As a commission artist, I am keenly aware of the faith required for a client to invest in a vision in which the use of descriptive words are insufficient, and the use of a two dimensional drawing is often misleading. I invite the patron of the arts to witness my passion, craftsmanship, and devotion of my craft. A visit to Jan Pearson's studio makes it easy to understand why Jan, with his sizeable bag of tools and tricks, is acknowledged by his clients and colleagues as a true artist and sculptor, and the Master of Matter.

History Architecture Manuscript Paintings ... Art of Book Sculpture By Dr.Dickran Kouymjian Stone Sculpture and Relief Carving nevitably in a country with an architectural tradition in stone dating back to Urartian times, the craftsmen who so carefully carved blocks of stones for walls, fortresses, and sanctuaries had acquired the skill to sculpt stone as relief decorations for buildings or as independent works of art. Little sculpture has survived, however, from the pre-Christian period because of the excessive zeal of St. Gregory and the newly convert royal court of Armenia in destroying all vestiges associated with earlier pagan religions. The major exception is a series of extremely large carved monolithic stones found in various parts of Armenia and often associated with water sources. They resemble large tailless whales. On them are fish-like designs, but they are know as vishap-k'ar, dragon stones. They date from the second and first millennia B.C. Excavations have uncovered a miscellany of sculptures from the Artaxiad and the Arsacid periods, roughly the second century B.C. to the fourth century A.D. The famous bronze head of Aphrodite, found at Satala near Erzinjan, now in the British Museum, or the small female torso in white marble dug up at Armavir, testify to the popularity of Hellenistic sculpture in Armenia. Other stone heads, anonymous but no doubt of Armenian nobility, display a static pose far removed from the classical style. Nearly a dozen boundary markers of king Artaxias I (Artashes) from the early second century B.C. have also been uncovered in various areas of Armenia, but these are more important for their Aramaic inscriptions than for their art. The temple of Garni from the first century A.D. offers an enormous repertory of sculpted lion heads, acanthus friezes and geometric and floral reliefs associated with the Ionic order of Hellenistic temple architecture.

Carve a Free-Form Sculpture
Around the middle of the last century, sculpture began to evolve or change into what we know today as modern sculpture. Artists began working with new materials and "invading" solid forms with voids or holes. Henry Moore, one of the most famous sculptors of the 20th century, was a pioneer in stressing the importance of negative space. Strongly influenced by his environment, he was fascinated by the caves which occurred in the hillsides and cliffs of his native England. To Moore, a hole or negative space was as important as solid form, and he often used hollow cavities in his work. Another distinguishing characteristic of modern sculpture is the artist's choice of subject matter. Before the mid-1800's, sculpture was created to represent people such as religious figures or royalty. Sometimes artists would model or carve the likenesses of animals. While modern sculpture can be representational, the subject is just as likely to be abstract. Much of Henry Moore's work falls into this category. Two of the artist's sculptures are located in Columbus, Indiana. One of them, Large Arch , stands in front of our public library, and it has served as the focal point of the library plaza since 1971.

Sonya Moran Born in London, England in 1963, Sonya studied art throughout high school before going on to complete a nursing degree. Seemingly satisfied with this safe career option, Sonya worked as a nurse for 6 years after completing her studies. In 1986 Sonya took an extended break from nursing to travel, and eventually made her way to a popular tourist destination, Hamilton Island, Australia. There she met Foot Young, an American Sculptor. Entranced by the living nature of marble sculpture, Sonya decided to stay on an re-examine her earlier passion for art, now that such an exciting medium had presented itself. For four years she worked and studied with Foot, learning the fundamentals of carving form in driftwood and marble, as well as learning mould making techniques. Sonya started exhibiting her work in the Hamilton Island Gallery the year she arrived. Since that inaugural moment, Sonya has now taken part in over 35 exhibitions and sold her work by com mission to private collectors throughout Australia and the world In 1990 Sonya moved to the Australian mainland to set up her own studio. In 1993 moved her studio to the alternative creative nucleus of Australia, Byron Bay where she is still based. In that time she has produced hundreds of works her inspiration coming from the natural beauty that surrounds Byron Bay, and from her extensive and continuing travels around the world.

TIBETAN ART
We will categories Tibetan art into three parts: (I) Flat (2-dimensional) Paintings which include `Thangka', Fresco, Wooden Tablet and Sand Painting, (II) Solid (3-dimensional) Objects which include Bronze, Clay Sculpture, Clay Modeling, Wooden Carving, Stone Carving, Ritual Objects, Butter Sculpture, Mask and Cazha, and (III) Costume. I: Flat Paintings. (a) Thangka.
The thangkas are painted or embroidered images rendered on cloth, silk or paper which is mounted on a cloth backing and may be rolled up like a scroll when not hung. A thangka composed of strung pearls is kept in Dradrug Monastery in Shannan. Thangka is a special art of Tibet. The material used for thangka is linen cloth or coarse woolen fabric or silk or paper. The cloth needs to be prepared first and then the artist works out the sketches of the portraits with charcoal sticks. The drawing usually begins at the center. Colouring comes last. The pigments used come from non-transparent minerals and plants such as malachite and cinnabar. They are mixed with animal glue and ox bile to make the lustre stay. There are many schools of painting which may be classified as the Eastern Tibetan, the Middle Tibetan, the Western Tibetan. The Eastern Tibetan was the oldest and heavily influenced by those of the Han nationality. This style is individualistic and probably too free for the taste of Buddhists. The Western school began after the Indian master Atisa came to Tibet in the 11th century (Song Dynasty). Atisa brought Nepalese painters to work according to the rigid rules. The Middle Tibetan School is an integration of the above two.

I think you'll have to agree... this is some pretty fancy artwork! UPDATE! I received an e-mail from an "Eric Fong" who informed me that the carvings are actually Japanese, and that the writing on the melons is Japanese
NOTE: There are 34 photos total. Due to bandwidth restrictions, they must load one by one.
The week of January 23-30 the number of "hits" on the melon page took out my web host! This should be little more than an inconvenience. In time, I'll put on a navigation link.
