The Lunder Conservation Center will be the first art conservation facility that allows the public permanent behind-the-scenes access to the preservation work of museums. The 10,200-square-foot center will be visible to the public through floor-to-ceiling glass walls that allow visitors to see first-hand all the collections care and modern conservation techniques that conservators use to examine and treat artworks. In addition to providing expanded space for conservation projects, the center will be a destination for learning about conservation science and techniques through educational kiosks, videos, public programs and outreach initiatives. Commentary
Who Owns Art? Listen to this one-hour special that aired on NPR (National Public Radio). Margot Adler interviews Maxwell L. Anderson and Martha Lufkin. "The Greeks want the Elgin Marbles back from the British and Iraqis want their historical artifacts back from ‘looters’ who may be shopping them to world class museums. Native art and artifacts are widely on display in foreign lands and more of the cultural owners are calling for their return home. But curators, archeologists and others say they have saved these treasures from being lost or destroyed and that exhibits raise awareness and appreciation of native cultures. Painters, sculptors and other artists have joined the debate challenging decisions that change where and how their art is displayed."

Priceless artifacts from Hollywood History on
display at these special Los Angeles showcases. More than 85 years of movie-making in Hollywood has produced many glorious memories and also (as you might expect) a lot of great movie memorabilia.
There is no one grand Hollywood Museum to showcase these treasures, but there are quite a few smaller exhibition galleries showcasing everything from popular movie sets to spectacular costumes... from the cars the stars drove to the lingerie they wore.
Would you like to to sit at the original bar from "Cheers"? Want to see the original Maltese Falcon? How about Hannibal Lector's prison cell from "Silence of the Lambs"? It's all here in L.A., and much more. There's something for everyone, if you just know where to look.
Below is a guide of all of the local museums offering an insight into Hollywood and its history.

    A comparison of Interactive Multimedia
    and Face-to-face Education in Museums
This paper was delivered to the the Seventh International Conference of the Museum Documentation Association, Edinburgh, Scotland, 1995. Abstract
Beyond the provision of (extended) labels and didactic panels, on-site educational services to museum visitors is traditionally delivered face-to-face. This paper compares the effectiveness of interactive multimedia with various forms of face-to-face museum education, in terms of:
    • social interaction
    • physicality
    • directness
    • open-endedness, and
    • cost
Some suggestions are made for interactive multimedia, as a result of these comparisons. Introduction
There are different types of face-to-face education methods (FFE) just as there are different types of interactive multimedia systems (IM). FFE in a museum consists mainly of gallery talks and performances, with or without a hands-on (workshop) component, and slide lectures. Museum-based IM systems are either on-site or off-site or a combination of the two . On-site systems typically consist of free-standing computers with touch-screens near the exhibits to which they relate. Off-site systems (accessed in schools, libraries and homes) mostly consist of CD-ROM software and on-line information systems, such as World Wide Web sites. Because off-site IM is more like accessing information privately in a library than a gallery talk, performance or lecture, I shall restrict my discussion of IM (for the purposes of comparison with FFE) to on-site systems only.
