Rainville was presented with the Audrey Sanchez Award at the association's conference early this year, an award that names her as the best in the state. She has been a presenter at that conference for the past 10 years, and now she is the award recipient. Paradoxically, the top of the line is not teaching kindergarten this year. She's now teaching second grade at the Waldorf School in Los Altos. Up until the last two years, though, the Saratoga native taught kindergarten at Lakeside School, and had for 13 years. She was the first to teach kindergarten at that school in the Santa Cruz Mountains, so she had a clean slate to work from and an amazingly free rein in designing the program. Much of the credit goes to her principal there, Martin St. John, she says. He was behind her staunchly in everything she proposed.
