Recent KinderArt KinderArt is all about making art fun for kids and easy for adults who teach art to kids. Currently, there are over 1000 art-incorporating ideas and lesson plans, as well as an extensive library section and many, many other features. Highly recommended! Art Teacher on the Net Chock-full of ideas, lesson plans and projects for teachers, parents, and group leaders. It offers a spot for the exhange of ideas between educators, as well as afterschool and adult education project areas. (My only criticism is that blinking GIFs are annoying, but it's not my place to point fingers, now, is it?) Definitely worthy of your attention!

Guide to Finding Lesson Plans
The Education and Social Science Library has many materials containing lesson plans, primarily in the form of curriculum guides, in both print and microfiche formats. According to the Facts on File Dictionary of Education , a curriculum guide differs from a lesson plan in that it includes "one or more aspects of curriculum and instruction, such as philosophy, policies, aims, objectives, subject matter, resources and processes" (p.138), while a lesson plan "includes the instructional objectives and methods for a particular functional unit or period of instruction" (p.271). Many lesson plans are embedded within the curriculum guides. The following is an explanation of several ways to locate lesson plans and other teaching materials on a particular topic in the Education and Social Science Library. Please direct all comments or requests for information to Nancy O'Brien.

LESSON PLANS
Lesson Plans: Strong, concise statements of objectives are always an essential component of any lesson plan. Once the objectives have been determined, the lesson and unit plan design follows. New teachers should develop thorough lesson plans, in part to ensure that important details and concerns have not been over looked, but also because it provides a disciplined and structured way to think about the art of teaching.
...In general, a good lesson plan will contain variations of the following items: *Title and brief introduction of the concepts to be addressed. *Goal(s) or the relationship of the lesson to the purposes of the curricular goals. *Rationale… why are the students learning this. *Instructional Objectives, and *Resources… all relevant vocabulary and definitions, books, audio visual aids, articles.

World Religions Lesson Plans Please note that with regard to lesson plans dealing with anthropology, archaeology, indigenous people, ancient civilizations, history, etc, there may be some cross-over and blurring of lines between the topics. For example, a lesson plan dealing with archaeology is automatically dealing with an anthropological subject. A lesson plan dealing with indigenous people is also automatically dealing with anthropology and any of them may, or may not, be dealing with history or ancient civilizations. While every attempt will be made to keep the topic lines as 'clean' as possible, be aware this may not always be possible. Appropriate grade or age levels are included with the lesson plans. The number of lesson plans available online for this topic are too numerous for a single list. The following provides some idea of what is available and will hopefully be a good starting point. Please Note: If you sometimes get an error message when clicking on a large text link, don't give up. Try the URL link instead. There are times when the large text link doesn't "take" for some reason, thus the built-in redundancy. Thank you.

"Mona Lisa Smile" gets 1950s artistic taste wrong. But it gets the decade's mixed messages about conformity and individual possibility right.
By Rebecca Zorach, 1/4/2004 IN "MONA LISA SMILE," Katherine Watson, the free-spirited, protofeminist art history professor played by Julia Roberts, struggles mightily against the conservative attitudes she encounters at Wellesley College. The year is 1953, and the students are coiffed, pearled, and patrician exaggeratedly so, according to Wellesley grads of the period who have stepped forward since the movie's release two weeks ago. ADVERTISEMENT Roberts is excoriated in the school paper for trying to persuade her students that they can aspire to a career as well as a husband. She is also branded "subversive" for teaching modern art to her young charges. We're invited to wink knowingly at this veiled reference to McCarthyism, and at the hidebound faculty who express skepticism at Roberts's claim that Picasso will be as important to the 20th century as Michelangelo was to the Renaissance. In a visit to New York to view a Jackson Pollock drip painting in a Greenwich Village loft, she asks her skeptical students merely to "consider" the painting. The movie's take on the period's taste may be as overstated as its depiction of young women hell-bent on getting their "Mrs." degree. In fact, abstract expressionism, American's homegrown brand of modern art, was widely appreciated in the 1950s, especially in elite circles like these. By 1953 Pollock had had numerous shows throughout the country; in 1951 he was featured in Life Magazine along with photos illustrating his drip-painting process. But in its depiction of Roberts's freewheeling teaching style, the movie accurately reflects an emerging approach to art history teaching that, like the modern art she shows her students, emphasized personal expression though perhaps not as much for women as for men.
