News and Press You are here: Home News and Events News and Press News Archive > Peter Blake RA - Commercial Art 1960 - 2003 Peter Blake RA - Commercial Art 1960 - 2003 Peter Blake RA - Commercial Art 1960 - 2003 4 July 4 August - 11 September 2003 London Institute Gallery, London W1 Prof. Sir Peter Blake RA, one of the inspirational figures in the Pop movement of the 1960s, will be showing his commercial art at the London Institute Gallery this August. During his 52 year career Sir Peter has worked extensively producing art work and graphics for advertising. His designs have included album covers, posters, invitations, calendars, advertisements as well as illustrations for publication in magazines and books. Sir Peter is renowned for his avid interest in popular culture, and his close music industry friends include Sir Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger. Ian Dury was both one of his students and a friend. Sir Peter's influential collage designs for record covers include the legendary Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Band Aid single Do they know it's Christmas?, and most recently Paul Weller's Stanley Road. The artist's work extends across a diverse range of media including watercolour, drawings, prints, collage, to painting, and sculpture, although there have been few opportunities to view his commercial art en masse before. This August exhibition will be followed later by an exhibition of Sir Peter's sculpture at the London Institute Gallery from November 2003 - January 2004.
