http://www.asumh.edu/general/campus/history.htm
HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY
Responding to urging from community leaders, North Arkansas Community College began an off-campus program in Mountain Home in 1974 by offering two evening classes at the high school. As the program grew, additional temporary locations were used to support enrollment needs. In the Fall of 1976, a center was established by North Arkansas Community College that eventually included an Adult Basic Education program. At that time, ten classes were offered. By the summer of 1986, approximately 50 freshman and sophomore classes were being offered and four junior and senior level classes (in elementary education) were being offered through an arrangement with Arkansas State University. Continued growth helped move the local higher education classes from the public school and into the former Twin Lakes Baptist Church on East Ninth Street. When that move was accomplished in 1984, the Mountain Home center became a satellite campus of North Arkansas Community College (NACC). In 1985, with monies provided by Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home, and the remainder being raised by a group of community leaders, the buildings belonging to the former First Baptist Church of Mountain Home were purchased. The Vocational-Technical Education Division of the State Department of Education purchased the building known as McClure Chapel and an adjoining piece of property. The Baxter County Vocational-Technical and Adult Basic Education Center began operation in 1985 under the umbrella of the former Twin Lakes Vocational-Technical School at Harrison.

53. The History Of The Clinton School District
offers a look at the History of the Clinton schools in Clinton, arkansas. The Act divided the entire State into four vocational school districts.
http://clinton.k12.ar.us/disthist.html
History Founders Superintendents Principals ... Teachers A History of Clinton School The early schools in Clinton, Arkansas consisted of random sessions of about three months duration that were set up and operated by individual teachers who collected tuition from each student.
James H. Fraser started a school like this in Clinton in August of 1870. During the school term, which closed at the end of October, it was reported that this was a good school and many people were pleased with it. The children all thought a great deal of their teacher.
On the first of September, 1870 Mr. Fraser was awarded a teaching certificate by Wm. H. Clayton, Circuit Superintendent of the 4th Judicial District. The certificate was presented for satisfactory testimonials of good moral character, has this day been examined in Orthography, Reading, Writing, Mental and Written Arithmetic, English Grammar, Modern Geography, History, and the Constitution of the United States, Constitution and School Laws of the State of Arkansas, and stated that Mr. Fraser was thereby Licensed to teach in the Public Schools of this State within the limits of the 4th Judicial District for the term of twenty four months from the date hereof, unless sooner revoked. Given under my hand this 1st day of September A.D. 1870. Early in 1872 James H. Fraser's sister from Athens, Alabama, came to Clinton and started a three months term school. A newspaper item dated April 30, 1872, reported: "At Clinton, Miss Virgie Fraser, late from Athens, Alabama, has opened a school of high grade, with flattering prospects of success. A number of citizens have determined to build a handsome house, and establish an academy that will be an honor to the community."

Things to consider before you enroll in a private vocational school:
Is the school promising you a job when you graduate?
It is against the law for private vocational schools to use any business name, logo or insignia that is designed to be deceptive and mislead potential students about affiliations the school might have. Did you answer an employment agency ad for a job and found you were really calling a school?
Is a course necessary to get a job?
Check the newspaper to see who is offering the jobs you want. Call the human resources departments of some of the companies and ask if you really need a course. How are you going to pay for the course?
Depending on which type of loan you get, you may have to start repaying the loan as soon as you finish school.
It can take many years to pay back the loan, depending on the cost of the course and how high the interest rate is.
Unlike many other types of loans or debts, school loans are very difficult to discharge in bankruptcy.
