Arkansas Introduces State Tax Deduction For Gift College Investing Plan SM Arkansas taxpayers are eligible for a $5,000 deduction when contributing to state's 529 college savings program Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas 529 Plan Review Committee, sponsor of The GIFT College Investing Plan, announced a new state income tax deduction eligible to Arkansas taxpayers who contribute to The GIFT College Investing Plan. This new benefit to residents of the state is the result of Act 1973 filed by Sen. Gilbert Baker and signed by Gov. Mike Huckabee. The new law gives Arkansas taxpayers the opportunity to make deductions up to $5,000 per year when making contributions to the GIFT Plan. For example, a married couple who each contribute $5,000 to a GIFT Plan account can each deduct $5,000 from their Arkansas taxable income, for a total household deduction of $10,000 per year. The Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service offers its programs to all youth between the ages of 5 and 19 regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Agents and volunteers should consult the "all reasonable effort" procedures in organizing and maintaining 4-H clubs according to Affirmative Action guidelines included in the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Policies. All youth participating in 4-H should have the same opportunity to equal training in 4-H work. All 4-H work should be conducted in such a manner that the Extension organization would not be criticized for the selection of winners. Children of Extension personnel enrolled in the 4-H club program are eligible to compete in all 4-H programs and activities and are, therefore, eligible for all county, district, state, and national awards.
