Van Buren School District - Our Children, Our Success! Professional Development
Targeted areas for implementing technology goals
  • Productivity Communication Information Assessment Instructional Resources
Staff Needs Assessment Since the outset of the technology implementation in Van Buren School District, teachers and administrators have participated in an active professional development program. In the future all staff members will participate in surveys to assess current skills based upon ISTE National Technology Standards for Teachers and Administrators. Post course evaluations will provide feedback on training effectiveness. The district technology committee will combine the results and use them to create professional development strategies for the next couple of years.
ISTE Web Site: International Society for Technology in Education Funding for Professional Development Funding for staff development is critical to the successful implementation of technology throughout the District. The District has primarily funded professional development through district operating funds, state, and federally funded programs. VBSD offers training opportunities during District provided in-service days, early release time and summer development classes.

19. Arkansas Council On Economic Education
Provides staff information, workshops, and links.
http://www.arkeconed.org/
The Arkansas Council on Economic Education (ACEE) is a private, non-profit, non-partisan, educational organization founded in 1962 to promote economic literacy in Arkansas.
The mission of the ACEE is to promote economic literacy and the economic-way of thinking Real-life economics involves:
  • Teaching youth to invest in their human capital. Teaching youth the skills to make wise choices, because all choices involve costs. Teaching youth financial literacy. Teaching youth our free enterprise and market system.
Economic education is real-life, because all young people will grow up and become part of the marketplace. The ACEE provides resources and training to K-12 teachers in both public and independent schools in Arkansas. Our belief is that through training teachers, the multiplier effect is achieved. Each school year, the training a teacher receives through the ACEE can impact new children. Our vision is to create a state of people with the real-life skills they need to succeed: to think and choose responsibly as individuals, consumers, savers, investors, citizens, members of the workforce, and to be effective participants in both their local communities and the global economy. Economic literacy is essential to improve the standard of living for all Arkansans.

Department Welcome ....
Welcome from the faculty, staff and students of the Department of Chemistry and Physics. The Department is home to 23 faculty in all areas of chemistry and physics, many of whom hold cross- or associate appointments with the Departments of Biology, Engineering, Environmental Science as well as a group of dedicated support staff, students and postdoctoral associates. Outstanding in-house instrumental facilities, such as the Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory, Allen Materials Science Laboratory, and the Water-Rock-Life Laboratory help to provide a stimulating research environment which is also strengthened by the association of many of our faculty in the department with the Arkansas Biosciences Institute. We are particularly proud of the many faculty in the department who have won recent acclaim for their internationally recognized research. These include Mark Draganjac (University Distinguished Research Faculty) and Robyn Hannigan (National Academy of Sciences Natural Resources Board).
