63. Study Posting (3290) -- Trial #75226, Stomach Discomfort, Arkansas City, KS
Summary Novartis is conducting a 6week study, to assess the efficacy and safety of an Ark City Clinic 510 West Radio Lane arkansas City, KS 67005
http://www.centerwatch.com/patient/studies/stu75226.html
Trial Information
Summary: Novartis is conducting a 6-week study, to assess the efficacy and safety of an investigational drug in women with dyspepsia.
The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate that the investigational drug is superior to a sugar pill in improving symptoms of dyspepsia over six weeks of treatment. Seeking female patients age 18 years and older with stomach problems. Dyspepsia is medical condition common among the US population as well as other western countries. The word dyspepsia describes a recurrent pain or discomfort that may occur in or around the mid to upper abdomen, which is often referred to as the stomach area. The discomfort may be also described as bloating, nausea or vomiting, and a sense of fullness which may or may not be related to eating. Unfortunately, there is no definitive cause for dyspepsia. Researchers have identified several factors that may contribute to the condition. One of these factors is the improper function of the digestive system. Patient Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria: Patients must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Female patients age 18 years and older
  • Persistent or recurrent symptoms consistent with dyspepsia including mid to upper abdominal pain and discomfort, (sense of fullness, bloating, nausea, or vomiting) for at least 12 weeks, not necessarily consecutive, during the previous 12 months

ARKANSAS Clarence Byrns , of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was the editor of the Fort Smith Southwest-Times Record. He was called the "Father of the Arkansas River Project" by those in Arkansas. He wrote editorials for four decades promoting navigation on the Arkansas River. He saw the economic benefits Oklahoma and Arkansas would attain from navigation and flood control on the river. A bridge across the river a short distance from Fort Smith is named for him. He was president of the Arkansas Basin Association and a member of the Bi-State Committee. Newt Graham of Tulsa and Reece Caudle of Arkansas worked with him to achieve navigation on the Arkansas River when few others believed it was possible.
Reece A. Caudle , of Scottsville and Russelville, Arkansas. He was an attorney and State Legislator and Speaker of the Arkansas House, and became involved in the River in 1933 following the first hearings after the Flood of 1933. At that time, he along with Stickey Meeks and Senator Kerr began lobbying for flood control on the River. Mr. Caudle funded the Arkansas Basin Association and stayed active until he was killed in an automobile accident in the 1950's. He made numerous trips to Washington, D.C. to promote harnessing the river, in an era when the trip took two days by train. Col. (Ret.) Charles D. Maynard

Summit on Regional Stewardship
Chancellor Anderson provides a straightforward rationale for the university’s efforts: “ Why will the university involve itself in regionalism? Because so much is at stake for our region and the university should make a difference."
Chancellor Anderson continues, "This is our region and our place. If the region prospers, we prosper. If the region suffers, we suffer. We also know from previous experience that university involvement will stimulate and inspire our faculty and will enrich the educational experiences or our students. The goal of such engagement is a stronger region and a stronger university.”

Breach of Faith
A Crisis of Coverage in the Age of Corporate Newspapering Gene Roberts, Editor in Chief
and Thomas Kunkel, General Editor Veteran journalists report on their own industry's threat to democracy. What has happened to the news? Over the past decade, there has been a major shift in newspaper coverage. Many newspaper executives, paring costs and badly misreading public appetites, have cut back dramatically on all types of public-affairs reporting. Fewer reporters than ever are assigned to the statehouse or the White House, to city hall or foreign capitals. Too often celebrity gossip and movie tips take the place of serious journalism instead of existing alongside it. Newspapers once operated under a mandate to provide the kinds of news that citizens need to function in a democratic society, but many corporations have changed that mandate.
