Honduras on Sept 10 A Brief History Arizona Library Association (AzLA) began in 1926 when Estelle Lutrell and State Librarian Con Cronin recognized the need for a strong association of librarians to improve Arizona libraries. The mission of the fledgling group was to "look after the general welfare of library work and workers in Arizona, to advance the education advantages of the state through libraries, and to promote general interest in library extension (traveling libraries.)" From a beginning of 23 members, AzLA has grown to approximately 1,000 strong. Since its establishment, the Association's basic mission has remained the same: to promote and improve library service and librarianship in Arizona.

    94. JIS: FAQ
The University of arizona Library is committed to maintaining and providing access to the Journal of Insect Science for the foreseeable future.
    http://www.insectscience.org/about/faq/
    Frequently Asked Questions
    • What about the impact factor for JIS? How do I know that my paper will be accessible to other scientists?
Journal impact factors are a function of how many times papers in a journal are cited by other authors. Obviously, it will take some time for a new journal to have enough papers such that an impact factor could be calculated. However, there are other factors involved in achieving a high impact factor. One of these is accessibility. Other authors cannot cite your paper if they are unaware of it, or cannot find it. A listing of databases, aggregators, indexies and archives that provide access to JIS papers can be found by following the Scientific Resources that Include JIS link on the left hand menu. Currently you or your library have to pay large sums to make sure that papers in scientific journals, published by commercial publishers, are accessible by buying subscriptions. Commercial publishers are hyperlinking their journals but this service is only available for a fee. Breaking this barrier to free access is one of the main goals of JIS. How are you going to guarantee the long-term survival of papers published by this online journal? There have been many disasters in the last when large amounts of data became inaccessible because of technological changes.

Joint Use Libraries August 10, 1.00-3.30
Shared-use libraries have been a part of library services for many years - some more successfully than others. In the last decade the concept has gained momentum in the wake of budgetary concerns that have public dollars going as far as possible without impacting services. While the concept of shared use libraries has its advantages, it is not suggested that it will work in every instance in every community. Clearly attention to advance analysis and time for input from all stakeholders is the critical foundation to determining if shared use is likely to succeed. This presentation will give an overview of two very different projects - a public library with K-12 school libraries THAT IS CURRENTLY OPERATIONAL and a community college library with a public library THAT IS IN THE PLANNING STAGE. The planning for these libraries and the operational aspects of the open facilitY will be explored. Coordinates
