Welcome to Northern Arizona Literacy Enterprises (NALE) at Northern Arizona University (NAU). NALE and its sister entity, the Northern Arizona Writing Project (NAWP), have been providing quality, research-based professional development in-service programs to teachers and administrators throughout Arizona and the West since 1988, primarily in reading, writing and technology literacy. We offer a variety of professional development training programs that we can bring to you, at your school, during the school year and/or summer. Or, if you would like to experience Flagstaff’s spectacular environment (including cool temperatures in the summer, and skiing in the winter) then we are more than happy to host you and your colleagues on NAU’s campus in a program custom-designed for you. VSA arts of Arizona provides yearlong teacher-student training programs at various sites throughout the state. As part of a three-year commitment, teachers will work with artists to learn methodologies such as focused skill development using sequential techniques; use of inquiry-based educational instruction, development of vocabulary and encouragement of independent ideas; reflective time in journaling; and skills in building a cooperative learning environment.

VSA arts of Arizona provides monthly training programs for artists during the school year, and for approximately 50 to 60 hours during the summer. VSAA brings together artists, administrators, teachers, and consultants for training sessions focused upon specific topics such as how children learn and evaluation.
