  • Throughout 2004, SARRC's outreach programs served more than 2,800 families searching for answers. SARRC also trained 175 habilitators and professional therapists and 600 educators, primarily from across Arizona. SARRC's outreach efforts served families from as far away as France, Lebanon, Japan, England, Alaska and other parts of the U.S.
  • Partnered with the Arizona Department of Education to train 140 teachers throughout the state in autism instruction methods.
  • Trained more than 130 parents of newly diagnosed children to manage home-based therapeutic programs through a four-week training session.
  • Advanced plans for the creation of a vocational and life-skills training center to help maximize independence and develop career training, job options and self-help skills for teens and young adults with autism.
  • Established after-school model programs to serve 80 students, including typical peers, while serving as a training opportunity for teachers.
  • Produced and distributed nearly 1,300 autistic disorder screening kits to pediatricians and primary care physicians throughout Arizona in an effort to encourage early diagnosis resulting in early therapeutic interventions. This kit, which is part of SARRC's broader Physician Outreach Program, was designed in collaboration with the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and local pediatric practices.

What is Autism? About SARRC Announcements ... Annual Community Breakfast
When parents learn that their child has autism, they often try to learn everything they can about the disorder as quickly as possible. Every article and book about autism captures their attention. They spend countless hours searching for the latest information. The sheer volume of data can be overwhelming and utterly confusing.
"Even with all that information, there are conflicting reports and few definitive answers. We want to help parents make sense out of it, help them evaluate the available interventions and empower them to make the best decisions on behalf of their child." said Denise D. Resnik, Board Chairman of SARRC.
Established in 1997, SARRC is the only comprehensive, community-based resource serving families, educators, therapists and physicians on all aspects of autism in Arizona. To house our growing operations and expanded research initiatives, SARRC purchased an 18,000-square-foot facility and worked with a collection of architects, designers, contractors, engineers and subcontractors to develop the new Campus for Exceptional Children. This campus allows for the continued growth of our research and resource facilities as well as offers individuals with autism and their families a comforting and supportive environment.
The remarkable record of SARRC's achievements reflects the commitment and credentials of its co-founders, and the passion of the board, motivated staff and generous volunteers and contributors.

HOUSE BILL 2462
Summary of Provisions on Marriage and Parenting Skills Program
Establishes a public school Marriage and Parenting Program fund administered by the Department of Education (ADE). ADE will distribute funds to school districts or charter schools whose plans to implement or continue a marriage and parenting education program have been approved by a newly-formed Marriage and Parenting Skills Commission.
Creates a Marriage and Parenting Skills Commission consisting of seven voting members, two non-voting advisory members of the Senate, and two non-voting advisory members of the House of Representatives. Members are appointed by either the Governor, the President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Commission reviews plans submitted by applicant school districts or charter schools for participation in the marriage and parenting program and selects schools eligible to receive funding. It also develops and distributes to marriage license applicants a free handbook on how to have a healthy marriage, and works with DES on a study to determine the fiscal costs of divorce in Arizona and the potential savings of a reduction in the divorce rate.
Specifies that a public school district or charter school may apply to participate or continue in the marriage and parenting education program for any fiscal year by submitting a proposal or application by April 15. The program proposal must contain a plan for implementing or demonstrating the existence of a marriage and parenting program.
