The Special Education Parent Resource Center is located at Jefferson-Houston School for Arts and Academics, 1501 Cameron Street. Please use our direct entrance on Cameron Street, at the West Street end of the building, door #4. Our telephone number is 703-706-4552. The Special Education Parent Resource Center offers free workshops and training sessions , parent support groups, and in-person and telephone support and information. Our services are available at no charge to all residents of Alexandria with children ages birth to 22, regardless of whether enrolled in public school, private school, preschool, or at home. When a child receives special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), he or she must have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). This is a written document listing, among other things, the special educational services that the child will receive. The IEP is developed by a team that includes the child's parents and school staff. The IEP is an extremely important document in the educational lives of students with disabilities receiving special education under IDEA.
