General Biology Home California Dreamin' Raffle Masters Degree Program Courses for Teachers ... Useful Links The General Biology Program The General Biology Program for Teachers offers graduate-level courses and enrichment opportunities for biology teachers. The program was designed to address the needs of middle and high school biology teachers for graduate-level biology courses, taught at times when they could participate. Courses are offered at times when teachers can attend: evenings, weekends, and school vacations. Because the courses are graduate-level, they meet many school districts’ requirements for salary increment credit. Courses are divided into the following categories: School-year courses : One-unit Current Topics for Biology Teachers courses meet for 15 hours, either evenings or weekends. Topics vary based on the interests of teachers and availability of instructors. The courses are designed to provide science content in the context of teaching the content to middle or high school students, so every attempt is made to incorporate hands-on activities and field trips. Summer courses : Summer provides teachers with more time to devote to their own continuing education. Most of the summer courses are two- or three-unit courses that emphasize either biology content or biology teaching. Many of our summer courses are core courses for our innovative master’s degree program.

Abstract
Progress Report on Arizona
Public Postsecondary Education
In recent years, the Arizona Legislature has directed the state's public community colleges and universities to cooperate in articulating course transfers and academic programs, and to collaborate in identifying and meeting the postsecondary education needs of Arizona citizens. In response to legislative direction, the Arizona Board of Regents and the State Board of Directors for Community Colleges of Arizona have established statewide committees to discuss issues, and propose and implement solutions. A primary mechanism for achieving cooperation and collaboration has been the oversight of the Joint Conference Committee (JCC) consisting of members of both Boards. The progress report which follows consolidates two previously separate reports into a single annual report that addresses both articulation and postsecondary needs. It is the first in a series of two annual reports submitted to the Legislature in response to a budgetary footnote included in the community college and university budgets for FY 2000 and FY 2001.
Part I: Jointly Identifying and Meeting the State's Postsecondary Needs
During 1999, the Arizona public community colleges and universities have acted jointly to meet the postsecondary needs of Arizona citizens. The report reflects progress in continuing community college/university partnerships, increasing access to baccalaureate programs, and implementing a review process to resolve issues related to postsecondary needs.
