Tucson, AZ 85754 FAX: (520) 770-3759 E-Mail: info@azdb.org URL: http://www.azdb.org The purpose of the project is that all children who are deaf-blind be identified statewide, and families be empowered to advocate for their children in their home and natural communities. The project has four operant goals: (a) Identify children who are deaf-blind through outreach, project visibility, coordinating identification efforts with other state child find efforts, and assisting families and service providers with validation of sensory loss; (b) deliver technical assistance to families; (c) Deliver technical assistance to service providers in the areas of parent education, transition, transdisciplinary assessments, teacher competencies and current best practices being the focus; and (d) Enhance community oversight and coordinate and collaborate with state and national organizations.

The equipment ranges from the passive to the extreme and includes adapted cycles, beach wheelchair, modified games and cards, bowling aids, specialised gardening equipment, activity resource manuals and other publications. The equipment is suitable for adults and children with disabilities as well as useful for aged care facilities and specials schools.

  • Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS) Project This Web site describes this project in which the roles, responsibilities, and perceived needs of practicing adapted physical educators are described. The national APENS exam is also explained and visitors can see when the next exam is going to be.
  • Anchorage School District Adapted PE Page This site contains information about adapted physical education including a listing of common disabilities, teaching strategies, photos of equipment for adapted physical education settings, and a nice list of resources. The Anchorage School District Adapted P.E. department was awarded the first PEP Grant, called Project ACCESS, that addressed students with special needs in October of 2003. Grant monies will enable APE staff to better serve students with special needs in the physical education setting. Opportunities for better access to physical education for students with disabilities is the result of over $75,000 dollars to spend on appropriate equipment needs.

Currently, Mr. Kressner is revising the organization's language on specific program areas. His tasks also include the development and maintenance of the Consortium's websites and database. In addition, Mr. Kressner is responsible for media contacts and printed material published by the Consortium and is participating in event planning and organization, focusing on communication issues. Mr. Kressner holds a Master of Arts degree in Communication Studies from California State University - Sacramento.
