    Runaway and Homeless Youth Programs
    Programs
    Grants for Runaway and Homeless Youth programs are authorized by the Runaway and Homeless Youth Act (Title III of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974), as amended by the Missing, Exploited, and Runaway Children Protection Act of 1999, (Public Law 106-71).     Basic Center Program
    The Basic Center Program funds youth shelters that provide emergency shelter, food, clothing, outreach services, and crisis intervention for runaway and homeless youth. The shelters also offer services to help reunite youth with their families, whenever possible. Any State, unit of local government, public or private agency, Indian Tribe, organization, or institution is eligible to apply for these discretionary funds.
    Transitional Living Program
    The Transitional Living Program for Homeless Youth addresses the longer term needs of older homeless youth and assists such youth in developing skills and resources to promote independence and prevent future dependency on social services. Housing and a range of services are provided for up to 18 months for youth ages 16-21 who are unable to return to their homes. Any State, unit of local government, public or private agency, Indian Tribe, organization, or institution is eligible to apply for these discretionary funds.

    Children shelter - 24-hour line (520) 421-0767 Against Abuse, Inc. is a private non-profit social service agency that has been involved in issues affecting individuals and families since October 1981. The agency’s victim services consist of a domestic violence shelter and transitional house for women and their dependent children (providing individual and group counseling and support, case management and advocacy), two shelters for abused children from birth to age 18 (providing individual and group counseling, case management and advocacy) and outpatient treatment services.

    website: www.arizonaschildren.org Founded in 1912, as our state’s first orphanage, today the primary mission of Arizona’s Children Association (AzCA) is to provide each child with a healthy family environment on a permanent basis. AzCA;s Riverside Shelter is a 10-bed facility licensed by and contracted with DES to provide short-term physical care of children who have experienced a disruption in their living situation until a more permanent placement can be made. The shelter was established in 1995 and serves approximately 40 boys ages 5-17 each year from Pima and Cochise counties. In addition to providing care and supervision in a homelike setting, the staff at Riverside Shelter also assures adequate clothing, prepares nutritious meals, ensures appropriate educational and social recreation activities, and provides transportation to appointments. The shelter serves as a safe haven for children who have generally been victims and/or witnesses to abuse and neglect in their own homes.

    DESCRIPTION: The grants will be provided over five years to strengthen the capacity of states, territories and American Indian tribal governments. The state grantees are: Arizona Child and Adolescent State Infrastructure Grant Georgia will focus on building comprehensive systems of care to meet the needs of youth with serious emotional disturbance, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders and their families. Strategies addressed include: development of a trained workforce, funding strategies, policies and practice guidelines and web resource development and improved data infrastructure development. The overall purpose of the Child and Adolescent State Infrastructure Grant Project in Georgia I to provide the ability to strengthen the capacity, from a state level, to develop, expand and sustain mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring services and supports at the community-based level for youth who have serious emotion disturbances, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders and their families.
