Abstract
Progress Report on Arizona
Public Postsecondary Education
In recent years, the Arizona Legislature has directed the state's public community colleges and universities to cooperate in articulating course transfers and academic programs, and to collaborate in identifying and meeting the postsecondary education needs of Arizona citizens. In response to legislative direction, the Arizona Board of Regents and the State Board of Directors for Community Colleges of Arizona have established statewide committees to discuss issues, and propose and implement solutions. A primary mechanism for achieving cooperation and collaboration has been the oversight of the Joint Conference Committee (JCC) consisting of members of both Boards. The progress report which follows consolidates two previously separate reports into a single annual report that addresses both articulation and postsecondary needs. It is the first in a series of two annual reports submitted to the Legislature in response to a budgetary footnote included in the community college and university budgets for FY 2000 and FY 2001.
Part I: Jointly Identifying and Meeting the State's Postsecondary Needs
During 1999, the Arizona public community colleges and universities have acted jointly to meet the postsecondary needs of Arizona citizens. The report reflects progress in continuing community college/university partnerships, increasing access to baccalaureate programs, and implementing a review process to resolve issues related to postsecondary needs.

Board of Regents’ Appointments Press Conference Tuesday, September 2, 2003 Governor’s Office Phoenix Arizona When I was elected Governor of Arizona, I promised to make education my top priority. Today I am announcing my appointments to the Arizona Board of Regents, and there is no doubt in my mind that these two individuals will improve the quality of higher education in our state.
  • The Board of Regents, comprised of eight members and two student regents, is mandated by our state constitution to oversee Arizona ’s public university system: Arizona State University Northern Arizona University , and the University of Arizona In Fall 2002, the board was responsible for serving 113,869 students who attended the three state universities.
Today, I am proud to introduce Arizona ’s newest regents, who have agreed to make higher education their top priority: Lorraine Frank and Ernest Calderon.
Lorraine Frank
  • Lorraine has been an Arizona resident since 1954 and has an esteemed record of service to our state, especially in the areas of education and the humanities. She was a presidential appointment to the National Council on Humanities in 1993-1997.

2004 Digital School Boards Survey
The Center for Digital Education and National School Boards Association are pleased to announce the winners of their 2004 Digital School Boards Survey. The study examined how school boards and their districts are applying information technology to better engage their local communities and constituents, and improve the delivery of services and quality of education to public schools.
The survey grouped school boards into three categories based on student population: More than 15,000 students; 2,501 to 15,000 students; and 2,500 or fewer students. Survey questions and criteria focused on school boards’ online presence, technology applications that allow the public to interact with school board members, access to information such as school board calendars, policies and agendas, and technology advancements in the school board chambers.
