Campus Menu : Profile Courses Offered Admissions Resources Insider's View During the 1930s, there were only five architects engaged in private practice in New Delhi. Most of the others worked for the government, and the profession was still in its infancy in northern India. That doesn't mean that architecture in India didn't exist ! It did, on a scale that can be seen throughout the country. But as a profession, architecture had not yet taken off. At this time, the only two existing schools of architecture in India were in Mumbai and Baroda. With World War II came a sudden demand for architects in the Allied forces, and a Britisher called Walter George established a training institute for architects. The Department of Architecture, as it was known, came into existence as a part of the Delhi Polytechnic at Kashmere Gate in 1942. The first batch of architects received their diplomas in 1950. July 6, 1998 TEMPLE'S TRUSTEES APPROVE REORGANIZATION OF SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES Contact Information for the Newly Reorganized Schools and Colleges With one eye on strengthening academic programs to meet student needs and the other on a rapidly changing marketplace, the University's Board of Trustees has approved reorganization of several schools and colleges. The changes, which were effective July 1, 1998, are based on a comprehensive study by the Board's Strategic Planning Committee and recommendations made by President Peter J. Liacouras and Vice President and Acting Provost Corrinne Caldwell after a year-long,University-wide review. Below is a capsule summary of the changes.
