170. LISA: LCA In Sustainable Architecture
Providers of a life cycle decision support tool to calculate the environmental impact of a building. Also provides a range of impact attributes.
http://www.lisa.au.com
About LISA
LISA (LCA in Sustainable Architecture) is a streamlined LCA decision support tool for construction. It was developed in response to requests by architects and industry professionals for a simplified LCA tool to assist in green design. Currently LCA methodologies are too complicated and not widely accessible to designers and specifiers. Also, detailed LCA studies often divert attention from the key environmental issues, and tend to focus attention on inter-material competition, rather than on optimum construction systems. LISA is designed to:
  • Help identify key environmental issues in construction. Give designers an easy to use tool for evaluating the environmental aspects of building design. To enable designers and specifiers to make informed choices based on whole of life environmental considerations; ie life cycle analysis.
We are continually adding case studies, with the following currently under development:
  • Multi-storey offices High rise Wide span warehouse Road and rail bridges
At present only nominated developers are able to generate new case studies, or modify the underlying data or equations in existing case studies. If you are interested in having us develop a particular case study or becoming a developer and adding case studies yourself, please contact us for more details.

  • suggest an article Introduction Web Services have emerged as a key strategic capability for integrating business processes, data, and organizational knowledge. This article is meant to be a practical discussion guide to building a .NET application in a service-oriented architecture. We will consider real-world goals, real-world obstacles, and experience-based solutions. I quickly concede the approaches discussed here are not exhaustive or infallible. This paper is focused on application development, not application integration. We will specifically consider architectural issues and component design issues. The Potential of Web Services So why all the hype? Web Services obviously have great potential. It's a way to integrate at many different levels. Consider this example. A single consumer application (perhaps interacting with your company over the Internet) wants to engage the company in some business process. To facilitate that business process, the company internally invokes processing that spans two discreet systems (A and B). However, through a service-oriented architecture, the entire end-to-end business process is exposed to the consumer application as a single service.

For the designers of the building, Rauno Lehtinen, Pekka Mäki and Toni Peltola, it was their first built work and only one of them had managed to complete his architecture degree by the time the building was finished. The commission had been given to them through a competition, the traditional way for young architects to get started in Finland. Such competitions have given architecture greater vigour and often elicited an international response, as well.

It achieves this by defining ways for specifying the externally visible characterestics of a distributed object in a way that is implementation-independant. This model is based on clients requesting the services from distributed objects or servers through a well-defined interface, by issuing requests to the objects in the form of events. An event carries information about an operation that needs to be performed including the object name (called an object reference ) of the service provider and the actual parameters if any.
