All good architects must also have the ability to conceptualize and communicate their ideas effectively, both verbally and on paper, to clients, government officials, and construction crews. Meet an architect: Miguel Rosales Education
Architecture is a rewarding profession, but the path to becoming an architect is rigorous and long. To begin, all architects must complete an academic program specifically focused on architecture. Possibilities include a five-year Bachelor of Architecture program or a two-year Master of Architecture program in addition to an undergraduate degree in architecture. In order to be eligible for accreditation, nearly all states require three years of practice as a junior associate, draftsman, or researcher in addition to having an accredited sponsor. Finally, all architects must pass the Architect Registration Exam and master computer assisted design programs before being hired as an architect. Fast Facts

DAMS is a mass-spectrometry software system for data acquisition, visualization, processing and interpretation. The architecture of DAMS is to provide user-friendly interface and to be easily expandable. The three layers of DAMS structure - procedures, plots and device rack, are visible immediately. Virtual device presents real device or functional group of real device. All devices are controlled by visual controls and by a script (as polymorphic objects). The script is generated by a procedure, then executed by devices (thru interpreter) and results are presented in plots. Each device has three pages (tabs) offering three way to operate the device. On the screenshot above you see the extended page of Pyrolyzer device, below are the normal and setting pages of the same device. The plots offer sophisticated visualization, save/load and data processing (peaking, smoothing, baseline correction) as well as other mass-spectrometry specific operations. ... even a 3D plot. DAMS can use MS-NIST search engine and library from identification. Another procedures are: - Uni-Scan - follow the change of the signal as a function of device parameter

There does not remain a lot of of the oldest cities and dwellings and most often only their monuments, patiently rectified and restored testify about them, if the stone was used. The majority of the structures are ignored here bus hibiscustour reports and underlines primarily the least known aspects more surprising or of the works wellings were built with materials much less resistant (wood, plants, raw bricks). One observes sometimes sketches on the ground and some clue (fire place, backyard, storage..). Troy (Turkey) is hidden under 6 or 7 layers of cities built during centuries, and the huts of Gallic are only reconstituted. Egyptian villages let only imagine what they could be, although in this country, dry sand authorised a very exceptional conservation. It should be said that all it is wooden made has generally disappeared, well before fabrics and leather. Finally, earthquakes destroyed a lot too, as for the greek monuments

This paper explores the applicability of SM ideas to knowledge based systems. 154. Neustadter, L., "On the Structure of Data in SML Models," Research Paper, John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management, UCLA, 62 pages, 3/90. SML stores detailed data in relational tables. Although they offer many advantages, relational tables may be subject to insertion, deletion, and update anomalies. This problem has been recognized by the database community, and the subarea of normalization theory has been developed to address it. This paper examines SML from the perspective of normalization theory. After detailing the relationship between SML and functional dependencies, conditions are given under which elemental detail tables are guaranteed to be in Boyce-Codd normal form (BCNF). It is then shown that lack of BCNF does not necessarily imply data anomalies, and a more appropriate normal form is proposed. The main conclusion is that, under mild conditions, elemental detail tables are not subject to data anomalies. 155. Topic: Managing Digital Content (Three Presentations)
Presentation 1
Title: Managing Web-Based Content in an XML Environment: Apache's Cocoon Framework and the Oyez Project
Abstract:
The Oyez Project is a large multimedia audio archive that contains thousands of hours of Supreme Court oral arguments in digital form. In this talk, the current implementation of Oyez using the Cocoon architecture, an XML-based information architecture for storing, rendering, and processing content will be described. Also, the hurdles faced when migrating from an older three-tiered architecture in addition to some of the future promises and challenges posed by this architecture. Furthermore, the efforts that have been made to make Oyez content available outside the traditional web using technologies such as MP3 audio, RSS, and calendaring will be shared.
Presenter: Chris Karr Bio: Chris is a software developer for Academic Technologies at Northwestern University. Chris graduated with a degree in computer science from Princeton University. At Princeton, Chris designed and implemented a distributed system for managing geospatial content using XML under the guidance of Prof. Brian Kernighan. In 2002, Chris came to Northwestern University and has worked on a variety of projects involving scientific visualization, English-to-Greek localization on the web, and deploying web-based videoconferencing scheduling for the University. Currently Chris is the technical lead for the Oyez project, a web-based Supreme Court audio archive that has been featured in a variety of trade publications, including Wired Magazine.
