A Bow For Your Style Of Archery Whether your interest is hunting, field archery, competiton, historical re-enactment, or simply recreational pleasure, there is an Araucaria Bow to meet your individual needs. There are many variables within these archery categories, and in the style of bow you choose. A bow which is too heavy to draw and handle comfortably, does not meet the regulations of a particular club or group, or simply does not perform the way you wish it to, will ultimately be a source of disappointment rather than a thing of pleasure. Make My Passion Your Pleasure! When you shoot one of my bows, you will enjoy not only a beautifully efficient and lethal bow that stands equal to any of it's type in the world, but one which will put you in touch with the timeless tradition of archery as it was meant to be. My bows quite literally, come alive in your hands.

AntiDoping tests in archery, recreational or elite? archery is predominantly a recreational sport, which can be played by young and old alike.
http://www.archery-fita.org/fita_committees/medical/article_doping_english.htm
Anti-Doping tests in Archery, recreational or elite? Archery is predominantly a recreational sport, which can be played by young and old alike. It does not require a great deal of athleticism to achieve a certain level of scores and thus many recreational archers may participate in the sport while suffering from chronic medical conditions. The problem arises when someone on prescribed medication participates in a local or national tournament and is randomly selected by doping control for testing. The archer may not even realise that the medication that their doctor prescribed was listed by the IOC or by FITA as a drug which cannot be used by an archer in competition. What to do? FITA makes provision in world tournaments for archers to notify the FITA medical committee what prescribed medications are being taken 21 days in advance of competition so that they may be notified whether or not they may compete while on those medications. It is recommended that National Member Associations make similar arrangements for their recreational archers who take part in local and National tournaments. While it is not the intention of FITA to penalise the recreational archer by its anti-doping policy it is likely that the political intention of National Anti-Doping authorities will trap the unwary.

It is easy to acquire archery skills with an experienced instructor. Visitors to the Bled golf course can choose between two beginners courses, lasting 3 or 10 hours. With a one-day course, participants can acquire the basic archery skills and the basic experience for successful firing at distances up to 10 metres. They will get a beginner archer certificate. After 10 hours of practice, a beginner qualifies to become a recreational archer at distances of up to 30 metres. He or she is also familiarised with the basic archery equipment, the methods of adapting the equipment and the technique of barebow shooting Eventually, the course participants compete at a tournament with 30 arrows. The archers are then given a certificate of having completed the 10-hour course. Recreational archery is carried out under the watchful eye of an archery instructor.

Anyone interested in starting/learning archery please look through ‘Find Your Local Club’, or contact the Grand National Archery Society (GNAS), for details of their nearest clubs.
With over 1,100 clubs in the UK, there will be one not too far away. To find your local club click on the map. Some clubs specialise in particular types of archery such as 'Target' or ‘Field’ and many have access to indoor facilities over the winter season for practising and shooting in competition at closer distances.
Instruction
Almost all clubs in the United Kingdom are able to arrange a course of six introductory lessons, which cover a basic understanding of technique and disciplines for shooting in safety and with relative accuracy. Most courses will be organised and supervised by qualified GNAS coaches.
Any instruction organised by a GNAS affiliated club that follows recognised procedures is covered by the Society's public liability insurance policy. A charge may be levied for the course of six lessons and nearly always includes the use of basic equipment.
Equipment
By far, the greatest number of archers choose to shoot the ‘Recurve’ bow, the modern version of the traditional Longbow. Rapid technological developments over the last few years have led to an increasing popularity with the 'Compound' bow, distinguished by its much shorter length, pulley wheels, cables and telescopic sights.

B.C. Military Usage
From prehistoric times, the bow was a principal weapon of war and of the hunt throughout the world, except in Australia. Some authorities date the origin of archery as early as the Aurignacian period, about 25,000 years before the modern era. The earliest people known to have used the bow and arrow were the ancient Egyptians, who adopted the weapon at least 5000 years ago. In the time of the earliest pharaohs, the Egyptians practiced archery in hunting, as well as in warfare against the ancient Persians, who were then equipped only with spears and slingshots. Recreational archery was also practiced, among the ancient Egyptians and Greeks, one instance of the latter being the competition in which Odysseus won the hand of Penelope. Soon after, however, the bow and arrow was used extensively in the ancient world. The Assyrians and Babylonians depended on the weapon, and the Old Testament refers several times to archery as a characteristic skill of the ancient Hebrews.
