“The initiative to start APAA was a call from the heart.”
Our goal is to bring understanding and raise awareness as well as ensure the promotion of the Afghan Archaeological and Cultural Heritage. This goal is realized through its teaching in schools and public venues internationally, including in Afghanistan and in the Afghan and multi-cultural Bay Area community. Our work also consists in promoting and assisting in the education of the international public about the inherent value of archaeological treasures to cultural identity, and to specifically focus on the plight of Afghan people regarding the loss of their cultural heritage. Through APAA Dr.Tarzi is assisting in educating the younger generations as well as the older ones. This is done by publishing children and scientific books as well as provide education and training programs and tools in Afghanistan to future Archaeologists so they may in turn become self reliant and efficient Professionals of the trowel and skilled restorers. Finally, APAA hopes to inspire future generations in having the incentive to learn about, protect and preserve their unique heritage and further educate themselves and others on the importance and value of archaeological and historical heritages.

STALLINGS RANCH ARCHAEOLOGY IN LAMAR COUNTY PREHISTORY ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY, TESTING, AND EXCAVATION Introduction The 2006 Summer Field School will offer TAS members a variety of opportunities to explore the Gene Stallings Ranch in Lamar County and to get to know the landscape of the county in our search for sources of knappable lithic resources and other natural resources. Excavation, survey, and testing will focus within the 600 acre Stallings Ranch, with excavation being concentrated on the Stallings site which is a Fourche Maline campsite situated on a knoll overlooking the Pine Creek floodplain. Dates have not been set. The field school will be staffed with experienced professionals and avocational archaeologists who will offer quality guidance and instruction for everyone from beginner to veteran. Consult the TAS Web Page for suggested readings on Fourche Maline archaeology and on archaeology of the Lamar County area. Big Picture Environmentally The northern half of the county is in the Red River Watershed and the southern part drains into the North Sulphur River. Paris is situated on the divide between these two biotic zones and watersheds.

Archaeology portal Archaeology or arch¦ology or occasionally archeology (from the Greek words = ancient and = word/speech/discourse) is the study of human cultures through the recovery, documentation and analysis of material remains and environmental data, including architecture artefacts biofacts , human remains, and landscapes . Archaeologists study artifacts , which are anything showing signs of human use or modification. They are concerned with all members of genus Homo (see Human evolution The goals of archaeology are to document and explain the origins and development of human culture , understand culture history , chronicle cultural evolution , and study human behaviour and ecology . It is the only discipline that possesses the method and theory for the collection and interpretation of information about the pre-written human past, and can also make a critical contribution to our understanding of documented societies.

Most place a high value on written work, which should show an ability to solve problems. A bachelor's degree in anthropology is not always necessary. TIPS ON GETTING IN: * To stand out, good recommendations and work with professors are musts for applicants. Schools want self-starters with a vision of what they want to accomplish in a graduate program. Good writing skills and, in some cases, fieldwork are important.

  • 1. What jobs are available for archaeologists?
Professional archaeologists work for universities, colleges, museums, the federal government, state governments, in private companies, and as consultants. They teach, conduct field investigations, analyze artifacts and sites, and publish the results of their research. The minimal educational requirement to work as a field archaeologist is a B.A. or B.S. degree with a major in anthropology or archaeology and previous field experience (usually obtained by spending a summer in an archaeological field school or participating as a volunteer, see question 5). While this is sufficient to work on an archaeological field crew, it is not sufficient to move into supervisory roles. Supervisory positions require a graduate degree, either an M.A./M.S. or a Ph.D. Academic Positions Museum Positions . Museums may be connected with a university or independent. Museum curators conduct research, publish the results, give public presentations, prepare displays, and conserve the museum collections. Museum positions require a graduate degree (M.A./M.S. or Ph.D.). Museum positions are usually full-year appointments.
