CTICH Publications CENTER ACTIVITIES Staff news We were pleased to welcome Dr Sonja Cameron as our new History Co-ordinator last October. Sonja is a medieval historian, and has lectured at Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen Universities, including working as a research assistant for the Board of Celtic Studies on Gaelic computer-aided learning. She is replacing Jim Everett, who has moved to the Far East (of Scotland!), in a new post as Head of Distributed Learning at Lauder College in Dunfermline. We are sorry to lose Jim after three years with the Centre, but are sure that Sonja's expertise and enthusiasm will be a valuable addition to the Centre. Other staff news is that Geraldine McCullagh, the TLTP History Marketing Manager, gave birth to a lovely baby girl, Frances, in April. Geraldine will be on leave till July, and is greatly enjoying her maternity leave. Ian Anderson, who was appointed as Academic Support Officer last August, is deputising. Ian is an Economic History graduate and is in the final stages of writing up his Ph.D. on the Scottish trade unions and the nationalised industries. Consultancy work Now Sonja is continuing this work, having been invited to assist the History and Politics section of Glasgow Caledonian University to integrate Web-based resources in their courses. It is an ambitious project which includes the creation of a webpage for each course module, the identification of suitable external websites which are to be made available to students through links from the module sites, and a considerable amount of staff training in brower use, search strategies and HTML. Eventually, Caledonian lecturers intend to set their students web-based assignments such as the creation of a webpage on a specific topic, involving the location and critical assesment of web materials and the use of presentation skills.
