Dragid Connections General General Discussion PDA View Full Version : Homework help thread Emeraldaura 09-03-2003, 12:03 PM Hi guys, I came up with an idea (may be dumb, may not be...I dunno) But since I'm practically older than most of you here, I'm offering my services to you.
If you have any homework problems or a paper that needs to be read or checked and stuff, you can ask me or post to this thread and have everyone involved.
My theory is, the more minds working on something the better the outcome. Plus I just got done reading the grades thread and most you all like high grades, soooo it may be easier if we all pull together.
If your thinking, "what makes you so good for the job?" I'm just here to help if you need it, (and comming from a NHS member PRIDE award winner for writing, and current a dean in college, the help is pretty good... I would hope.)
So if you have any questions, bring them on and I'll try my best. NeoShadowMist 09-03-2003, 12:21 PM If you have any homework problems or a paper that needs to be read or checked and stuff, you can ask me
umm....wouldnt that be cheating

Students are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment to their studies. Such a commitment is an admission requirement and is made by each student during his or her admissions interview. We work to help students follow through on that commitment.
Each member of the learning community of our school, including students, parents, faculty, and staff, must be a full participant in order for the community to remain healthy. It is our intent to address motivational issues as they arise, rather than addressing the outcomes of low motivation. Students are expected to communicate with their parents, teachers and faculty advisor if and when they are experiencing difficulty in meeting their academic responsibilities.
In addition, regular attendance and timely completion of assignments are necessary to receive credit. Students must supply their own school supplies and other equipment as required by Explorations Academy. It is the student's responsibility to have appropriate supplies and equipment at all times.

Course Description and Rationale In this course you will conduct an in-depth study of a workplace in which people read and write for a living, focusing on the discursive processes and products of this "local culture." The primary relationship of the actors in this workplace must be a professional one. Your work will entail extensive on-site observations, interviews, and collection of artifacts, so you must choose a site to which you will have free access. (Course participants frequently choose to study the workplace in which they are currently employed. You might also study a workplace where you think you would like to be employed, but make sure you'll be able to visit it often. If you have no access to a professional site, a possible solution is to team up with a course participant who wishes to study her or his own place of work, or to combine this course work with an internship.) Finally, because I hope that this focus on authorship in the course will help you develop as an author both academically and professionally, I have included a component anchored more firmly in career concerns. At the first class meeting we will consider a model for career self-assessment, and at the second class meeting you will submit a brief self-assessment of yourself as a writer. On May 4 you will submit a similar "projective" self-assessment that revisits this assessment.

OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL
The beginning of the 2004-2005 school year was marked by a smooth start-up on many fronts. Students and staff quickly settled into academic routines. Athletics and activities have started and seasons are well under way. At the time of writing, the Senior Boys Soccer Lancers are the NCSSAA champions and will compete in the Provincial Championships that will be held in the spring, and the Senior Football Lancers are the Eastern Champions.
We are delighted to welcome Ms. C. McLeese as our new Vice-Principal.
We had an increased enrolment of 62 more students than predicted, so this meant that we were able to hire more teachers as a result of the fall staffing adjustment. Some students had their timetables altered; however, the results meant that class sizes were smaller. We welcome Mr. S. Campbell, Ms. N. Cheung, Mr. P. Kelly, Mr. B. Laugher and Mr. M. Minter. We also welcome back Mr. S. Gravelle and Mr. D. Stanley. Ms. V. Legut has also joined the Sir Wil Staff this year as an exchange teacher from Grenoble, France, and Mr. W. Burns is another wonderful addition in the Computer Technology Department.
The new Global Studies course in Anthropology/Sociology/Psychology is being well-received by students as is the new Learning Strategies course. The new courses in Space Science and Sciences (in French) will start in Semester 2 and we are sure that they too will be popular.

International Institute of Archaeology Anthropology Early Human Culture Are you aware of the recent discoveries about ancient humans? Through DNA research, scientists are suggesting that even though Neanderthal and modern man lived at the a time, they did not intermingle. As a result of recent discoveries in Zaire, scientists are suggesting humans in Africa were inventing sophisticated tools before humans in Europe, as was previously believed. Anthropologists have discussed the development of humankind for many years. Information on early humans can only come from discovery of artifacts and fossils. The artifacts are analyzed and anthropologists make educated guesses as to what the items were used for. Experts may have different viewpoints and come to different conclusions about early cultures. As new artifacts are discovered, the same experts continually adjust their ideas and change their theories about what they think happened thousands of years ago. Were early humans uncivilized brutish creatures or intelligent caring individuals developing their cultures? What evidence can you find using the cultural universals as a reference? Did any of the species invent and use technology? Many examples of art have been found. What was the purpose of this art to the culture?
