C.V. for a faculty member in the social sciences
This cultural anthropologist has a very strong vita and has been employed in academe since completing her doctorate no easy achievement in the tight market of anthropology. She would like a tenure-track position, ideally in a particular location but realistically any place she has to go. Her research interests are interdisciplinary, which may make it difficult for some departments to see where she could fit. It is important that she craft each cover letter to highlight how she is a good match for that particular job or department. This lengthy CV has a lot of white space at the bottom of many pages. We suggest that she decrease the size of her bottom margin. It also would be a good idea to have her name on each page.

In This Report Personnel and Administrative Changes Program Contributions to MIT and Outside Communities Educational Activities Presentations ... Grants, Honors, Awards The Anthropology Program is dedicated to advanced research and publication in cultural anthropology; to undergraduate teaching that opens students to the fundamentals of cross-cultural understanding and social thought; and to graduate teaching in the history and social study of science and technology. Our undergraduate subjects cover a wide range, with special strengths in the study of the contemporary world and the social context of technology. The anthropology faculty maintains strong ties with other programs in the School of Engineering and the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, including Women's Studies, Latin American Studies, Comparative Media Studies, the Technology Policy Program the History Faculty, and Science, Technology, and Society.
Personnel and Administrative Changes
AY2002 began with the Anthropology Program reorganized and administratively separated from the Science, Technology, and Society Program, with Professor Susan Slyomovics continuing as head of the Anthropology Program and Rosemary Hegg serving as administrative officer. Susan LoGuidice joined the program as administrative assistant. On July 1, Susan Silbey, formerly professor of sociology at Wellesley College, joined the MIT Anthropology Program at the rank of full professor. The end of the year saw the retirement after 38 years of service to MIT of Professor Arthur Steinberg. An appreciation event with speeches by students and colleagues was held in his honor in April. A search has begun to find a junior faculty member who would begin in July 2003. In June of 2002, Professor Slyomovics completed her term as head of the Anthropology Program. She will be succeeded by Professors Jean Jackson (fall term) and James Howe (spring term).

TENURE AND PROMOTION: PROCEDURES AND CRITERIA Department of Anthropology INTRODUCTION The Chair will discuss the significance of the annual review, the third year review, and the Departmental procedures for Tenure and Promotion with each new faculty member during the first semester of his or her employment. Progress of a potential candidate toward tenure and promotion to Associate Professor will be commented on by the Chair during the annual evaluation and will also be the focus of a departmental review in the Spring semester of the third year of employment at the University of Memphis. This third year review will comprise an evaluation/assessment of preliminary accomplishments of criteria used for tenure and promotion. University, College, and Departmental criteria in effect at the time of a faculty member's employment must be fulfilled by all candidates. The Departmental criteria amplify certain University and College criteria and specify further levels of professional attainment regarded as appropriate to our program. It should be noted that anthropological fieldwork is of particular importance to our discipline and it will be given specific recognition, as it constitutes an important component of the candidate's instructional, scholarly, and/or service contributions. Finally, as a function of the Department's relatively small size, we attach particular importance to the ability and willingness of candidates, in the development of their individual scholarship and service interests, to contribute to the attainment of the recognized goals defined in the SACS accreditation self-study and Department's strategic plan, in cooperation with other faculty and staff.

    http://www.stolaf.edu/depts/sociology/activities_statement.html
DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY STATEMENT REGARDING SIGNIFICANT PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES The Department of Sociology and Anthropology aspires to promote and evaluate the professional development of its faculty in ways that reflect both the mission of the college and the disciplines of sociology and anthropology. The department recognizes that the liberal arts context presents faculty with both opportunities and constraints on professional activity that are not shared by professional colleagues in other environments. The department is firmly committed to the beliefs that teaching is our most important professional activity and that scholarship is essential to good teaching. In the light of these beliefs, the Department of Sociology and Anthropology recognizes several forms of scholarship as significant professional activity. Scholarship is recognized by this department in the following areas: Scholarship which advances and disseminates sociological and anthropological knowledge. Scholarship which supports new innovations in teaching, or which integrates sociological and anthropological perspectives with other study and disciplines and thereby contributes to the task of general education and support of the broader liberal arts curriculum.
