Animals Used for Entertainment FAQs
“Don’t zoos teach children important lessons about wildlife?”
No, zoos claim to educate people about animals, but small enclosures do not allow animals to display their natural behaviors, and signs typically tell visitors little more than the names of the animals, where they can be found, and what they eat. Animals’ normal behaviors are seldom discussed—much less observed—at zoos because their natural needs are rarely met in zoo environments. Many animals who live in large herds or family groups in the wild are kept alone or, at most, in pairs at zoos. Natural hunting and mating behaviors are virtually eliminated by regulated feeding and breeding regimens. Animals at zoos lack privacy and have little opportunity for mental stimulation or physical exercise. These conditions cause them to exhibit abnormal, self-destructive behaviors called zoochosis. Many zoo officials focus on profits rather than the well-being of the animals. A former director of the Atlanta Zoo once remarked that he was “too far removed from the animals; they’re the last thing I worry about with all the other problems.” Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to keep animals in captivity, where they are bored, cramped, lonely, far from their natural homes, and at the mercy and whim of people.

Anyone Can Be A Humane Educator!

Whether you're a boys or girls club leader, a camp instructor, a teacher or a parent looking to educate your children on the nature of living things, you are a humane educator!
Follow the links on the left for projects, activities, resources, tours, and much more to help teach children respect and empathy for all living things.
Read about a well-renown Canadian humane educator, David Selby, and his views on teaching children compassion for all living things from our flagship publication, Animals' Voice!
Humane Education Through Fresh Eyes As a relatively new humane educator, my eyes have really been opened to the huge responsibility humane educators have. Before becoming a full-time humane educator, I worked for a humane society performing a myriad of jobs, including (but not limited to) adoptions, media relations, and humane education. I was (and still am!) so happy to be working in the animal welfare field; it truly was a dream come true. Like many of you, I have a deep love of animals and I wanted to do as much as I could to assist in their protection. I travelled to dozens of schools and spoke to hundreds, if not thousands of kids about responsible pet care and safety around dogs. I would visit for approximately an hour and talk to the kids, show them a video and let them practice meeting a dog in the appropriate manner.

dvoorhis@tcsc.k12.in.us Technology has become the new literacy of the 21st century. If students are to acquire the skills and attitudes needed to succeed in an ever-changing global environment, they must be immersed in all facets of technology and research methods. From data research and analysis to multimedia presentations, every child should be given appropriate opportunities to explore and use broad spectra of technology. To provide real examples for students and to inspire them to stretch their own potential, teachers must also make daily use of integrated technology in lesson delivery. Kids with H.E.A.R.T. is an exemplary model of teacher creativity and skill in using technology and library research skills to address core standards in literacy and science while expanding awareness of an important environmental concern. The technology enhanced lesson makes learning fun and exciting, and stimulates students to continue research and create projects of their own.
Under topic related lesson plans, you will find examples of a PowerPoint presentation on endangered animals, fast fact pages with detailed information on specific animals, sample HyperStudio stacks, sample presentation boards, clay animations, live video footage, and downloadable rubrics. We invite you to view our Kids With H.E.A.R.T. project and hope that it enhances your classroom instruction.

RAWA Educational Policy
We teach our students:
Recognition of these basic principles and values:
- Everyone must respect all human beings regardless of language, religion, race, color, etc.
- There is no difference between people; no human being is superior to any other because of class, color, language, race, or religion.
- All human beings do not have to think alike or live the same way.
- It's to the benefit of society that all human beings live in peace, understanding, and harmony.
Religious Tolerance: - Respect all religions and their followers.
- Understand that followers of all religions can live in harmony and peace.
- Do not discriminate against the followers of religious sects different from your own.
- Understand that religion is a private matter that cannot be forced on anyone else and nobody should be allowed to misuse it for any end, it must be kept separated from politics.
- Do not allow criminals in the future to dare to commit crimes in the name of religion, as did the Jahadis and Taliban. Ethnic Tolerance: - Respect all ethnic groups in Afghanistan.

Endangered Farm Animals
One half of all goat, sheep and swine breeds face extinction. The same is true for one third of cattle and a quarter of horse breeds. These are startling numbers, considering the vast amounts of farmland and large quantities of livestock nationwide. Most of the breeds that are dying out are rare breeds that do not produce meat and fiber as quickly as newer breeds. However, they have their important part in the past, present and future of agriculture.

We've seen some of these leatherbacks, which are the biggest of all marine turtles, swim to depths of almost a 1000m and cover distances of over 2000km.

    Wild Animals in India
India has many rare and unique animals, birds and reptiles. Many of these are protected in National Parks and wildlife sanctuaries in India. Many of the religions practised in India such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism teach a respect for life in all its forms and therefore people do not needlessly harm other living creatures around them. However the pressure of growing populations in various states of India has led the increasing need to use land for human habitation and agriculture leading to the reduced habitat of many endangered animals in wildlife sanctuaries. However the conservation movement has strong roots in India and awareness about preserving the environment and the rare and threatened species of animals, birds and reptiles that live in India is increasing. India Wildlife tours offers tours of the National Parks and Wildlife sanctuaries of India, where you can see some of the wonderful endangered animals, birds and reptiles of India. Some of the animals, birds and reptiles of India, which you can see on India wildlife tours are:
