New Yorkers for Companion Animals (NYCA) URGENT:  Helping Katrina's Animal Victims   No one can begin to guess how many tens of thousands of pets are stranded in abandoned, flooded houses in New Orleans or navigating water-logged streets as new and terrified "strays."   "Shoot to kill" orders will be given to deal with the "problem" unless massive rescues can be undertaken soon.  Apparently, some of the larger humane organizations already have personnel in some of the areas willing and able to rescue some of the animals.  But, they have to be given the go-ahead by authorities.   Please read carefully the information provided below and follow the directives.   Also, keep in mind that if rescue efforts are allowed to move forward, many unclaimed animals will have to be transported to other shelters and rescue organizations in other states including, eventually, New York.  There is no way the small shelters in hurricaine-ravaged Louisiana and Mississippi will be able to take in and handle tens of thousands of lost pets.   We, at New Yorkers for Companion Animals want very much to sign up to take some of the animals that may be transported to New York.  But, at this time we are full and have no available fosters.Â

Evolution reveals that the ancient ancestors of humanity were, in fact, animals. With this in mind, why shouldn't all people believe that modern humans are animals as well? Ancient civilizations had religions that even held animals to be divine beings. In the Bible, the Book of Revelation , a person can read about all kinds of animals in heaven. For all these reasons, there should be no reason to believe animals are inferior and have no souls.
