Print The George Washington University Law School Animal Welfare Project The Animal Welfare Project is an independent pro bono project associated with the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, a student organization devoted to researching and improving animal welfare laws in the District of Columbia. Overseen by Professors Mary Cheh and Joan Schaffner , the Animal Welfare Project works to increase awareness of issues regarding animal welfare and to foster community initiatives among the area's leaders in animal welfare organizations and activities. The Project began in the fall of 2003 as a pro bono effort of students and faculty committed to improving the lives of area animals. Over 40 students participated in some part of the Project's efforts.
