PRCA Rodeo Equipment

101 ProRodeo Drive
Colorado Springs, Colorado 80919
In the sport of professional rodeo, cowboys share the limelight with the rodeo livestock. For a cowboy to compete at the highest level, the livestock also must be in peak condition. Both are athletes in their own right. The very nature of rodeo requires a working relationship, and in some events a partnership, between the cowboys and animal athletes.
Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) athletes value their animals, as do the PRCA stock contractors that provide the livestock for the rodeos. Like most people, PRCA members believe animals should be provided proper care and treatment. The PRCA and its members value their animals and staunchly protect them with specifically created rules.
Like a well-conditioned athlete, an animal can perform well only if it is healthy. Any cowboy will tell you he takes home a paycheck only when the animal is in top form. Stock contractors, the ranchers who raise and provide livestock to rodeos, also have an obvious financial interest in keeping the animals healthy. Simple logic dictates that no sensible businessperson would abuse an animal that is expected to perform in the future.

Animals in Education
The Humane Society of the United States recognizes the importance of biology studies within all levels of education. As the "study of life," biology programs should be designed to instill in students an interest in, and respect for, all living things. The HSUS believes that these objectives are best met when biology education focuses on animals as living, sentient creatures, emphasizing their behavior, life history patterns, and relationships with their environment. The HSUS offers a wide variety of information for teachers and students pertaining to dissection and the use of animals in education. Our online dissection resources include but are not limited to:
  • A listing of and links to dissection laws/student choice policies from various states. Frequently asked questions about dissection.

Dr Harry or James Herriot?
By James Anthony Most people will have had some contact with vets - either through the family pets, or on TV in the form of James Herriot or our own Dr Harry. The work they do - helping sick creatures - will tug at the heartstrings and while these guys make it look easy, becoming a vet is seriously hard work. In fact getting into a veterinary career is harder than becoming a doctor! You have to pass Year 12 with very high marks as getting into a university course is a cut-throat business with only the best applicants being accepted.

Information Resources for Animal Welfare and Alternatives: Animal Care and Use Committees The federal Animal Welfare Act requires that local institutional animal care and use committees ( IACUCs ) review certain local research protocols involving the use of animals. To assure a broad review, IACUCs include local members outside the animal care and research communities. As a result, IACUCs and research support staff become involved in the education of these members, their incorporation into committee problem solving, and in ethical decision making. This guide is intended to provide a brief list of resources on the functions and administration of institutional animal care and use committees, including these three areas. We invite your suggestions for additions and changes to this information guide.

create change Whether assisting seniors to care and provide for their fur and feather kids, or working to see laws that protect the public enforced, Kind Planet believes in service. Ninety five percent of the work we do is done by volunteers. We have learned that the greatest gift is giving, that a life of service is well lived. Holism is the foundation of our approach to Humane Education. Kindness and compassion will become the foundation of mankind’s consciousness and will govern choices. As we evolve towards that state of awareness, we will find that all life must be honored. We will realize that all life, and all that sustains life, is worthy of respect and care. We Invite you to join us in creating a community that celebrates life. Through focus on ourselves, our families, our community, our nation, and our planet, we will fill the world with kindness. ANIMAL RESCUE Kind Planet operates homes for animals, other than cats and dogs, which have been abandoned. Serving as an example of compassion, this program allows us to learn about and share information regarding state of the art care for the fur and feather kids we accept responsibility for.

Happy Hutch or Bored Bunny? - Learn All About Rabbits with the Scottish SPCA On Tuesday 2nd August, Scottish SPCA Lothian Animal Welfare Centre in Balerno near Edinburgh will be holding an open day for young animal lovers, full of chat, activities and fun! Open days will also be held at our Milton AWC on August 4th and Inverness AWC on the 11th. AX Club Members (the junior members of the Scottish SPCA) will be given a unique, behind-the-scenes tour of the Centre, which cares for all types of pet animals: dogs, cats, rabbit, guinea-pigs, budgies, canaries, ferrets and pet rats. This year will focus on all things bunny! Scottish SPCA Education Support Officer Anna Price said: "Rabbits are the third most popular pet but are very often neglected; many are left in hutches that are too small and lead miserable lonely lives. Participants will have the chance to learn about rabbit care, how to keep bunnies active and the correct way to get to grips with bunny friends. "For AX Club members the events are free. Members are welcome to bring along friends, but they will need to pay a charge of £5.00 on the day and this will also entitle them to one year's membership of the AX Club.

    News
Since our opening on January 01, 2002, numerous improvements have been made at our District of North Vancouver Animal Welfare Shelter facility. Months of repairing, painting and renovating have given the shelter a new look, including a "Community Cat Courtyard", where cats can enjoy the outdoors in a secure environment, and a "Bunny Run" that allows rabbits to leave their condos to play outside. In addition to the new areas, the Shelter has a new "Community Cat Room" that houses cats ready for adoption, a "Singles Room" that holds strays pending a search for owners, and an "Isolation Room" for sick or pregnant animals. In the future, we hope to build a training area for Animal Behaviorists to work with behavior-challenged dogs. We have implemented numerous animal welfare programs. Most notable is our Progressive Animal/ Canine Evaluation program, which has been used to place 264 animals in life long homes. Other programs include quality animal medical care, nutrition, socialization, exercise, behavioral training, fostering, lost and found; as well as programs on volunteer opportunities, educational tours, and assisting and liaising with rescue organizations. We also encourage the public to view our web sites at www.dnv.org
