Good feeding practice Reasonable cost for optimum health
Good feeding practice
Choosing the appropriate feed for your horse is essential for health, growth and development, performance and vitality. Horses are naturally grazing animals. Their digestive system is designed to eat little and often and to process large amounts of fibrous material. They may spend between 16-18 hours each day eating. For maintaining digestive health the minimum forage should be 1-2% of bodyweight, mainly based on hay, grain and pasture. However, the requirement for nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals is greater with increasing exercise, growth, or pregnancy. In these cases forage needs to be supplemented by cereals, coarse mixes or nuts. top
Reasonable cost for optimum health
To find the optimal nutrition the following facts about your horse have to be considered:The current performance level (e.g. breeding, racing, recreation) and body condition. The daily nutrient requirements based on the current performance level, climate factors (temperature, rain, wind), age and breed. The feed composition (protein, carbohydrates, fiber, minerals, vitamins). top Printer-friendly Recommend page Use the menu below to select from the full international range of bayer websites related to animal health.

Correct feeding is crucial to maintain your dog's vitality. It is also crucial to prevent malnutrition and lameness. But what is the best way to feed your dog: dried food, canned meat or leftovers? Dry food Canned meat Leftovers
Dry food
Dry food can help reduce plaque on teeth because it's slightly abrasive. Normally dry food contains a balanced supply of carbohydrates, protein and fat as well as vitamins, minerals and dietary fibers. However, since it contains hardly any water, it might cause constipation. So remember to offer your dog plenty of water. top
Canned meat
Canned meat provides a nutritional basis of protein and fat. Add oat flakes, rice or noodles to supply carbohydrates and vegetables and fruits to guarantee that vitamins and dietary fiber is provided. top
Leftovers
Leftovers can also be used generally as additional diet for your dog. Avoid flavored or spicy food and really hard things like bones and never give bones that splinter, such as chicken bones. The best for your dog is raw or boiled muscle tissue from cattle, sheep and horse. Pork should only be used occasionally and must be boiled. As described for canned meat, add oat flakes, rice or noodles as well as vegetables and fruits to guarantee a well balanced diet. top Printer-friendly Recommend page Use the menu below to select from the full international range of bayer websites related to animal health.

Legislation List The production of animal feed is one of the most important sectors of activity in agriculture. Approximately 120 million tonnes of feedingstuffs are produced in the EU annually. Initially the rules on animal feed from the 1970s put the emphasis on productivity of livestock farming, facilitating the free circulation of feedingstuffs in the internal market and providing information to the stock breeders on feedingstuffs. Today emphasis has shifted more towards the protection of human and animal health and to some extent to environmental protection.

Animal Health and Nutrition Programs are currently offered in the Roane County area to local livestock producers. The program focuses on the importance of identifying signs of disease in livestock and addresses ways to maintain optimum health through health programs and good nutrition. The Roane County extension agent teaches local livestock producers ways to target and help identify problems in a herd and how to contain them when they do occur. Another primary focus of the program is to identify and discuss the realities of bio-terrorism and its relationship to local livestock producers. The program will help identify the importance of a network of communication in case of a bio-terrorist attack on local herds and instruct local livestock farmers how to react to the situation. For more information about Animal Health and Nutrition Programs contact the Roane County Extension Office at its local number (304) 927-0975 or the Office of Agricultural and Natural Resources at (304) 766-5711 or toll-free at 1-866-WV-STATE.

Bowen Therapy Just like you and I, dogs too get tired, sore muscles and back problems, this effects their movement and moods. Bowen therapy is a gentle non-invasive therapy, that rewards us with wonderful results that inturn makes our animals life a lot happier. This dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy helps the animal's body perform at its optimal level. Gentle moves on soft tissue stimulate energy flows, empowering the body's own resources to heal itself. It is not massage acupressure etc, it is small precise moves on specific points of the body that relaxes the body and sets up a stimulus that encourages the body to repair itself. You will be amazed with how wonderfully the animals respond to this therapy, and how relaxed they are with it. If you have an animal you race, show or are training for something, then their movement is important and Bowen therapy is definitely worth looking into. Like ourselves our animals fall over, injure themselves, over do it some days and can become involved in accidents. Bowen therapy can be a great way to help them with their healing.

Animal Nutrition
Pet Health In the home, or on the farm, animals of various sizes and shapes, species and breeds, sexes and ages are our companions and charges. We are responsible for their health and well being. Indeed, without our help, most would not survive infancy let alone thrive as adults. And their collective success, in turn, sustains our own. To maintain profitability, livestock producers need access to innovative, yet sound animal health management concepts.
Much of what we know about human nutrition and health applies directly to animal care. The role key nutrients such as protein, minerals and carbohydrates play in a healthy diet are well documented. This accumulated knowledge determines the formulation of pet foods and livestock feeds as well as supplements and nutraceuticals designed to promote animal health.
Currently, Glanbia Nutritionals is developing processes for extracting specific nutritional elements from their natural context to discover how these bioactive fractions deliver health benefits beyond basic nutrition. And how they facilitate and enhance physiological functions as they change and evolve throughout an animal's lifetime.
