Regional Sales Manager: "The Eagle Is Here To Stay"
Publishing date: 14.01.2005 11:47
A seemingly unending line of 52 passengers made their way from the American Eagle Super ATR72 aircraft to the Terminal Building on Tuesday afternoon this week, as it touched down on its first commercial flight to Anguilla since the completion of the extended runway.
The first passengers arriving in Anguilla on the American Eagle ATR72 “We are back,” a group of the elated travellers, mainly from the Northeast United States, told reporters. They were announcing their own return to the island as well as that of the Eagle to which many persons in Anguilla and visitors have been looking forward.
View of improved Terminal building The arrival of the aircraft which replaced the smaller ATR42 was also anxiously awaited by hoteliers and other operators of accommodation facilities. In fact, it is true to say that taxi-drivers and the island as a whole had been looking forward to the resumption of the service which is a vital component of Anguilla’s tourism industry and its travel requirements. The hope now is that in due course there will be an increase in the number of American Eagle flights to the island.

Omari Hailed As "Anguilla Flannelled Knight" In Regional Newspaper
Publishing date: 12.06.2003 10:33
As excitement reached fever pitch over the homecoming of Anguilla’s first West Indies Test Cricketer, Omari Banks has also been receiving attention overseas. This is a result of an article published in the June 2nd edition of the Express newspaper in Trinidad.
The article followed a three day visit to the island by regional journalist, Nazma Muller. Ms. Muller contacted the Anguilla Tourist Board to seek assistance in finding out a little more about the tiny nation and the family and friends that had given birth to the island’s history-making young cricketer.
During her short stay on the island, Ms Muller had the opportunity to meet with Omari’s parents, Donna and Bankie Banx, as well as other members of the family, teachers and friends. According to Ms Muller, “Everybody on Anguilla has an Omari story, from the taxi driver, to the waitress at Anguilla Great House, to his music teacher, to his cricket coach…they all say the same thing: the boy was driven.” She also offers a compelling description of the “tiny little coral rock” which he grew up, highlighting the turquoise seas, brochure-perfect sand, and helpful, friendly people.

26. About Nevis Financial - Island History
In 1967, St. Kitts and Nevis along with anguilla became a governing state with There are regional scheduled airlines which operate on a daily basis from
http://www.nevisfinance.com/history.cfm
GOVERNMENT
From the 17th century until 1967, Nevis along with its sister island were governed by England as part of the colony of the Leeward Islands, and later, the West Indies
Federation. In 1967, St. Kitts and Nevis along with Anguilla became a governing state with Great Britain. In that same year, Anguilla seceded from the Federation.
In 1983, St. Kitts and Nevis achieved full political independence. Consequently, the Federation ceased being an Associated State and attained the status of a Sovereign and Democratic Federal State, which is an independent participant of the British Commonwealth. Under this sovereign status, Nevis has adopted the British Parliamentary System of government. It has its own unicameral legislature and government that has the authority to formulate its own economic decisions. The Federation has its own representation at the United Nations.
POLITICAL STABILITY
Since attaining independence in 1983, the Federation has had a history of political stability based upon the Westminster model of government and continuity of national policy. The Federation has also been consistently adjudged to be among the world’s
freest nations by Freedom House, an independent and highly respected research organizations in the USA.

Jamaican Island History
SPANISH GOVERNMENT BRITISH COMMONWEALTH PROFILE
BEFORE THE SPANIARDS occupied Jamaica in the early sixteenth century, the island was inhabited by the Arawak Indians, who called it Xaymaca, meaning "land of wood and springs." Lying on the trade routes between the Old and New Worlds, Jamaica served variously for centuries as a way station for Spanish galleons, a market for slaves and goods from many countries, and a prize for the Spaniards, the British, buccaneers, and entrepreneurs. By far the largest of the English-speaking islands in size and population, independent Jamaica has played a leading role within the Commonwealth Caribbean and has been active in international organizations. Jamaica's story is one of independence that began in the seventeenth century with the Maroons, runaway slaves who resisted the British colonizers by carrying out hit-and-run attacks from the interior. Their 7,000 descendants in the Cockpit Country have symbolized the fervent, sometimes belligerent, love of freedom that is ingrained in the Jamaican people as a result of both their British tutelage and their history of slavery. Independence came quietly, however, without a revolutionary struggle, apparently reflecting the lasting imprint of the British parliamentary legacy on Jamaican society. Despite its people's respect for the rule of law and the British Westminster system of government

Country Report
Background
Population The 2001 population census survey estimates the population to be 12,446. Non-Anguillians account for 28% of the population. Economy Anguilla is a service economy contributing to 80% of GDP. The economy revolves around tourism - hotels, restaurants, construction, fishing and transportation. Hotels and restaurants alone contribute to 30% of GDP and 40% to the employment on the island. Tourist expenditure in 2001 was US$61 million. However, the economy is vulnerable to external economic shock and natural disasters such as hurricanes. Government also accounts for 25% of employment, but it too has limited capacity to find new or expanded programmes. Nonetheless tourism is expected to be the mainstay of the economy. Plans are already on hand for a new luxurious resort/golf course project and improvements to the airport. Unemployment stands at 7.8% and is highest in the 15-24 year age group. Although there is a lack of appropriate employment opportunities for youth, it is reported that the duration of unemployment is short - 3 months or less.

SANDALS ANTIGUA BY GARY BABALUK
We just returned from spending 14 nights at Sandals Antigua(November 15-29, 1997). This review is put in the context that my wife and I have traveled numerous times to the Caribbean and we have stayed at 5 other all-inclusive properties. We are both in our 40’s and enjoy fine dining both at home and when on vacation. We booked our vacation with Air Canada Vacations (Travel wholesaler) from Toronto and the departure was 2 hours late because of a snow storm the day before. The airport arrival in Antigua was uneventful with the usual exception of the fact that there was the usual number of local baggage carriers waiting at the luggage carousel to carry our luggage about 20 feet to the customs person. The one who approached us was rather rude about my carrying my own luggage because it was

Back to the Carib Aviation front page
A Brief History Carib Aviation started in 1973 with a single 6-passenger Beech aircraft for the main purpose of transporting guests for the Coco Point Hotel between Antigua and Barbuda. The operation was known as "Barbuda Wings". This internal service did very well for the first two years. In fact, it did so well that a second aircraft of the same type was obtained and went into service in the second winter tourist season of 1975/6. It was at this point that the owners started to think about setting up their own maintenance arrangements rather than relying on LIAT engineers for their assistance on their own time. The airline rented space in the "Seagreen" hangar (Seagreen operated a single DC-3 freight aircraft) and hired a freelance mechanic. Up to this the airline had operated under a US registration because it was simple and only required an "A&P"-qualified mechanic to perform 100-hour inspections. It became clear that, if Carib Aviation was to continue operating within the British Caribbean, the aircraft would have to be registered in the State of Antigua and a more sophisticated maintenance arrangement would be required. A fully licensed engineer was therefore employed to accomplish this task.
