Abstract Freshwater eels remain one of the world's most valuable cultured fish species, with an annual production of over 100 000 t. Japan has been to the forefront of this culture with a history covering 100 years. As a result, the standard texts on eel culture are by Japanese authors. Bernard Gousset is a French fisheries scientist who has published on comparative culture techniques of the Japanese eel and the European eel in Japan—his background enables him to provide an objective insight into an industry which has had to break away from many long-established practices to survive both increasing competition from neighbouring countries and the constraints imposed by shortages of suitable sites, water, and glass-eels. Press Release February 28, 2001
New Communications Initiatives Reflect Anguilla's 24/7 Culture
Anguilla's Financial Services sector has activated a three-pronged communications approach to become even more accessible to its existing customers and potential clients. The Government of Anguilla's Financial Services Department and Anguilla Financial Services Association (AFSA) has:
  • Relaunched the web site
  • Produced the inaugural edition of the Anguilla: Financial Services News
  • Updated the financial services brochure.
Anguilla is an emerging financial and E-Commerce centre offering world-standard expertise and the first, digital company registration system: Anguilla's Commercial On-Line Registration Network (ACORN). It is a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week facility enabling companies to be registered in Anguilla anywhere in the world in three-to-five minutes. The Hon. Victor Banks, Anguilla's Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Investment and Commerce, says ACORN is the modern way in which companies are registered. "To communicate this message and others about the good work being done in Anguilla we have taken our web site into the 21st Century as well as created a regular update via Anguilla: Financial Services News," said Minister Banks.

Part I : Descriptive Section INTRODUCTION The Government of Anguilla perceives education as one of the most important vehicles through which a nation achieves economic and social development. It perceives education as an essential ingredient for enhancing the quality of life for the people of Anguilla, for developing and sustaining their personal growth and self-realization, and for achieving economic and social well being. This perception of the importance of education is based on the belief that all human beings have a right to education, an education that will help them to be productive members of society as well as to be enlightened enough to enjoy the benefits of society. i Provide all citizens of Anguilla with opportunities for acquiring knowledge, skills, attitudes and values for meaningful participation in nation development and a satisfying adult life; ii Develop a sense of self respect, self worth, self esteem, and a spirit of self reliance; iii Acquire the capacity for critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making;

The Fountian Cavern National Park: Anguilla Workshop on the Development of a Statement of Significance for the Fountain Cavern in Anguilla 20-22 June 2005
Speech by: Hon. Victor. F. Banks, Chief Minister (Ag.)
In recent years archaeological expeditions led by David Watters of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, James Petersen and John Crock of the University of Vernmont have revealed the Fountain Cavern to be not just a geological wonder, but also a shrine rich in religious history. It was a ceremonial site for the Amerindian population of Anguilla and possibly those on nearby islands. Archaeological researchers clearly believe that the Fountain has potential to become a tremendously important facility for interpreting the culture of the Amerindian peoples of the Caribbean. The major focus within the Cavern will definitely be the majestic petroglyphs found inside. A site with so many well-preserved cave petroglyphs has not been identified anywhere else in the Lesser Antilles.
Within the Fountain Cavern there are significant petroglyhs of the Arawak god "Jocahu". The top section of a giant sixteen foot high stalagmite situated adjacent to one of the pools of spring water has been carved into an enormous head thought to represent the Taino Creator - God "Jocahu". “Jocahu”was revered by the Amerindians, as the "Giver of Cassava", one of their staple crops.

Eel Culture
The consumption of freshwater eels, primarily Anguilla japonica , in China, Japan, Korea and other parts of Asia represent a volume of almost 300,000 tons annually. The industry relies heavily in the catches of baby glass eels and elvers as they migrate inland from the sea into the rivers and streams where they spend their adult life. They then migrate back to the Pacific Ocean to breed, thousands of feet below the sea. The baby eels are then carried by the Kurushio current to the Sea of Japan, then into the rivers and streams of Japan, China and Korea. The high demand and seasonal availability of Anguilla japonica has driven prices to exorbitant levels. To satisfy eel demand, eel aquaculturists worldwide have been growing other species, such as Anguilla anguilla in Europe and Anguilla rostrata in North America. Because of over harvesting, the export of Anguilla anguilla outside of Europe is increasingly being restricted.
Poseidon's interest in eel culture dates back several years, its research and development program primarily directed towards developing the four alternative eel species found in Southeast Asian waters. The successful breeding of these eels relies on identification of the appropriate species to culture that matches the taste and meat characteristics of
