61. Anaconda!

http://amos.indiana.edu/library/scripts/anaconda.html
Audio Scripts Books efore Jennifer Lopez became J. Lo, she was an up and coming actress. Perhaps her worst movie was "Anaconda," about a giant snake that terrorizes a documentary film crew in the Amazon rain forest. Hollywood's version of the snake was pure fantasya 100 foot long giant with an appetite for B-movie actors. Although real anacondas are not nearly so large and rarely eat people, they are impressive creatures nonetheless. Anacondas are a type of constrictorsnakes that squeeze their prey to death with powerful muscles. Although widely regarded as the largest existing snakes, they are not the longest. That distinction goes to the Asiatic reticulated python, the longest-known specimen measured at thirty-three feet. The largest known anaconda was "only" twenty-eight feet long, but measured forty-four inches around. How did anacondas get so big? Their habitat has a lot to do with it. Living mainly in South American rivers that feed the Amazon, Anacondas spend most of their time in the water. Unlike snakes that live in trees or on the ground, the anaconda doesn't have to worry about climbing or chasing prey over rough terrain. Since their body weight is supported by the water, even the largest, heaviest anacondas are still effective predators. Anacondas eat virtually anything unfortunate enough to get caught in their grip, including other snakes, fish, deer, and even small jaguars. Prey is first squeezed to death and than swallowed whole. The anaconda's ability to unhinge its jaw allows it to swallow even bulky morsels.

The anaconda is the biggest snake in the world, even larger than the Old World python. Most snakes lay eggs, but the anaconda gives birth to live young.

Anaconda To see pictures of animals click the blue dot.. The anaconda is the biggest snake in the world, even larger than the Old World python. Yet despite its size and strength, it has few defenses against humans – its main enemy. A larger version of the boa constrictor, the anaconda is a massive snake that kills its prey by squeezing it to death in its powerful coils. It then swallows its victim whole. Although it has an appetite for prey as large as wild pigs and deer, the huge anaconda is capable of surviving for months and even years without food. Habitat: The abundant streams, rivers, swamps, and pools of the tropical rainforests of Amazonia provide an ideal habitat for the anaconda. This heavy snake is more at home in the water than on land, and it swims with grace and agility. It can stay submerged for over 10 minutes at a time and often lies beneath the surface waiting for prey. The anaconda lets itself be carried downstream on the river’s current with only its head breaking the surface. Then it drifts to the bank and glides away into the thick undergrowth. The anaconda usually hunts at night. It spends the day lying in the shallows or basking in the sun, draped over the branches of a tree at the water’s edge. Like most snakes, it can climb well and it uses trees for refuge from predators. Only the most powerful predator, however, can subdue a full grown anaconda. Food and Hunting: The anaconda preys on deer, wild pigs, and large rodents such as the agouti, paca, and capybara. It also attacks aquatic animals like the caiman, a relative of the alligator. The anaconda lies in a murky pool to ambush animals coming to drink. It seizes its prey quickly with its sharp teeth and drags it into the water. The victim often drowns before it is killed. Like all boas, the anaconda kills by constriction, coiling itself around the prey and squeezing. The snake squeezes tighter each time the animal breathes out so it cannot breathe in again. It quickly dies from suffocation. The anaconda swallows its victim whole. It can stretch its mouth around prey twice the width of its head because its jawbones are loosely attached to its skull and to each other. After a large meal, the anaconda sleeps for several days as it digests and may not feed again for weeks.

Black Caiman
Related to the extinct dinosaurs of the Mesozoic era 200 million years ago, the black caiman (Melanosuchus niger) is a top predator in the Amazon. The back caiman resembles the alligator and can grow as long as 20 feet (6 m) in length. This reptile often hunts animals drinking water along a cocha's shoreline. Once an animal is targeted, the black caiman will typically grab the prey by its head or legs and proceed to drown it by pulling the unfortunate creature into the water. The caiman's diet includes fish, capybaras, deer, and other mammals in the Amazon region. Male and female caimans mate in water. A female then lays as many as 60 eggs in a nest mound located on the shoreline. With the help of their mother, baby caimans hatch in three months and start feeding on insects. As they grow larger, the young gradually begin feeding on fish and later mammals. The black caiman was nearly hunted to extinction for its skin. In fact in the last century, hunting has reduced the caimen population by 99%. This creature is now found only in remote regions of the Amazon, such as in the Manu River. Other variations of caiman that live in Manu include the smaller white caiman (Caiman crocodilus) and the rare Schneider's dwarf caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus).

Common name for large South American snakes of the boa family. Anacondas are among the largest and most powerful snakes in the world. The common anaconda is the longest snake in the western hemisphere and the heaviest snake in the world; a large adult may be 6 m (20 ft) long and weigh 107 kg (235 lb). Anacondas kill their prey by constriction or squeezing. The common anaconda inhabits the river systems of northern and Amazonian South America east of the Andes. The yellow anaconda is much smaller, usually not exceeding 3 to 4 m (10 to 13 ft), and lives in the river systems of southern South America.

77. Dana
I dreamt of an anaconda snake just before the bombing that we did in Afghanistan called Operation anaconda. Months later I dreamt of an anaconda snake skin
http://www.near-death.com/forum/dream/000/08.html
Dana Dear Kevin,
I’m Dana and I have an interesting journey to share, but right off I have to say that I have not had a near-death experience. What have been occurring with me over the years are spiritual experiences through vision/dreams.
Two weeks before 9/11, I dreamt that our country was invaded by Arabs.
I dreamt of an anaconda snake just before the bombing that we did in Afghanistan called Operation Anaconda. Months later I dreamt of an anaconda snake skin and when I went over close to it in the dream there were hundreds of little live snakes and I felt the word stinger as in stinger missiles.
Last summer I had such a scary dream of war that I think I’ve stopped dreaming of the subject anymore since I find it too disturbing.
Another profound dream for me was during the month of Dec. 1999, just before Y2K. I dreamt of these overwhelmingly beautiful beings of light that came to me and in a non-threatening manner eased my spinal cord out of my back and slipped it into their color essences and then put it back and I immediately awoke to the thought, “Stay tuned to our channel, don’t go to bed stressed about Y2K or such mass fears.” The colors of the beings were a light, medium brilliant blue, a soft opal white and the color of water when the sun reflects off it.
Two other times in my life the beings have visited and my response is bliss and ecstasy. Once in a dream, when I was so stressed about the security of my career, the beings awoke me with that blissful feeling and said in my mind, “Don’t worry, Dana, you work for us, not the resort.” I wish I could say that I’ve maintained a state of calmness after such reassurance, but I still have to work hard at trust and relaxation.

Let us read something about the world's largest snake, which made an appearance in movies like "Anaconda" and "Anacondas2" leaving viewers horrified and breathless.
By Nilesh Parekh, 9/24/2004 After making a thrilling villainous appearance in movies like "Anaconda" and "Anacondas2", this snake is now known to almost everyone all over the world. Anaconda also known as "Water BOA" belongs to BOA family of snakes, which is one of the largest and most powerful snakes in the world.
The average length of anaconda is about 20-25 ft and about 13 inches in diameter, weighing around 150 Kg or more than that. According to the records, the biggest anaconda ever found was of length more than 37 ft (i.e. more than 11 meters). There may be larger Anacondas which are unseen. Anacondas are found in the rivers in the rain forests of South America, Brazil and Guiana. Anaconda chooses sluggish and swamp streams as well as it stays in rivers as stated above. Anacondas are mainly found in Arizona and Orinoco basins. Their natural habitat includes rain forests, grasslands, etc.
Anacondas are snakes but do not have fangs. There are two types of anacondas, greenish-brown and yellow in color. Yellow anacondas are smaller in length (not exceeding 10-15 ft) than greenish-brown anacondas. Greenish-brown anacondas carry a double row of black oval spots on the back and smaller white markings on the sides. Female anaconda generally outweighs the male anaconda.
