History of F. E. Warren AFB
It was on the branch of the South Platte River, three miles west of what is today Cheyenne that Fort D. A. Russell was established in 1867. Originally named in honor of Civil War Brigadier General David A. Russell, F. E. Warren Air Force Base is the oldest continuously active military installation within the Air Force. It's home to the 90th Space Wing and Headquarters, 20th Air Force, of Air Force Space Command. When President Lincoln and Congress set plans for the transcontinental railroad, they recognized the need for a military installation to protect Union Pacific workers from hostile Indians. On July 4, 1867, the railroad established its mountain region headquarters at Crow Creek Crossing, later known as Cheyenne. A few weeks later, the U.S. Cavalry moved from temporary headquarters in Cheyenne to a point three miles west and established Fort D. A. Russell. Thus, 1867 was the beginning of a city and a fort, and both have grown together over the years. Detachments of the 30th Cavalry formed the first garrison, under the command of Col. John D. Stevenson. For a brief time the troops lived in tents, but during the winter of 1867-68 they moved into wood-frame quarters. The dwellings were set in the shape of a diamond, instead of a rectangle, to protect against harsh winter winds that howled across the then treeless high plains. The diamond opened to the east and measured 800 by 1,040 feet. The entrance to the original fort was at a point next to the present day Chapel 1.

Japan's Germ Warfare and the Korean War
Lee Wha Rang, July 27, 1996 It is well known that the Japan's post-WW II economic miracle was primarily due to the Korean War. The US military mobilized (and paid for) war-torn Japanese military industries and military officers, many of them convicted war criminals, to a large scal e production of war material needed to equip some one million S Korean troops. In sharp contrast, little is known about Japan's direct military involvement in the Korean War. The relevant archives are still classified, even after a half century, by US and Japanese governments. The fact is that Japanese troops, sailors, engineer s and linguists were in Korea fighting the Communists. On July 4, 1950, only a few days after the outbreak of the war on June 25, 1950, the Japanese cabinet held an emergency meeting and formed a task group to maximize economic benefits from the War and to provide both direct military and indirect support to the US military. The Japanese Navy and Merchant Marine were hastily reconstituted to provide naval and marine transport to the US forces. Massive construction projects were initiated to install telecommunications, to expand control and command facilities including a huge CIA operations center near Tokyo and other parts of Japan. In July of 1950, Japan dispatched 4,200 ground troops to Korea as part of the 'US Forces' to engage N Korean troops closing on Pusan. On October 2, 1950 a Japanese Navy Flotilla commanded by Vice-admiral Takeo Okubo was sent to Korea. The Japanese warsh ips operated near Inchon, Wonsan, Cunsan, Haeju, and Nampho on the Korean coasts providing transport escorts and mine sweeping. The Japanese Navy played a key role in the planning and execution of MacArthur's Inchon landing.

WASHINGTON - In March 2003, days before the start of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, American war planners and intelligence officials met at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina to review the Bush administration's plans to oust Saddam Hussein and implant democracy in Iraq. Near the end of his presentation, an Army lieutenant colonel who was giving a briefing showed a slide describing the Pentagon's plans for rebuilding Iraq after the war, known in the planners' parlance as Phase 4-C. He was uncomfortable with his material - and for good reason. The slide said: "To Be Provided."

Seventh Cavalry Plains Indians LBHA Research About LBHA ... Questions? Reproduction in whole or in part without prior written consent is prohibited. The Significance of the Battle of the Little Big Horn The Battle of the Little Big Horn was the most successful action fought by the American Indians against the United States Army in the West. It was part of the Spring Campaign of 1876, an effort by the United States Government to force the Sioux and Cheyenne tribes onto their Reservations. The Indians' defeat of the finest cavalry unit in the United States Army had the same shocking effect then as the Challenger explosion had on the nation in 1986. It simply was not supposed to happen. The events surrounding the Battle of the Little Big Horn have fascinated amateur and professional historians for over 128 years, principally because of its many mysteries. While we will never know exactly what happened at "Custer's Last Stand," there is more than enough information for conjecture and debate. In fact, this intriguing Battle has been the subject of countless books, articles, movies, television programs, poems, songs, and websites. The National Park Service's guidebook

Seven days before Lincoln's reelection, the Confederate army crossed the Tennessee River at Florence, Alabama, heading toward Middle Tennessee.

Mexico was the site of some of the earliest and most advanced civilizations in the western hemisphere. The first major Mesoamerican civilization was established by the Olmec, who flourished between about 1500 and 600 BC. During 1535 to 1821, known as the Spanish colonial period, military and exploratory expeditions eventually made present-day Texas, New Mexico and California part of New Spain. BAGHDAD There were no reporters riding shotgun on the highway north of Baghdad when a roadside bomb sent Sgt. Elizabeth Le Bel's Humvee lurching into a concrete barrier. The Army released a three-sentence statement about the incident in which her driver, a fellow soldier, was killed. Most news stories that day noted it briefly.
But a vivid account of the attack appeared on the Internet within hours of the Dec. 4 crash. Unable to sleep after arriving at the hospital, Le Bel hobbled to a computer and typed 1,000 words of what she called "my little war story" into her Web log, or blog, titled "Life in this Girl's Army," at http://www.sgtlizzie.blogspot.com/
