Grandparents as Parents Again
SS-157-99
Grandparents across the country, regardless of income, background, or race, are becoming parents again! Grandparents who find themselves suddenly with this added responsibility often need help meeting the needs of their grandchildren. They need assistance with the child development, financial, educational, emotional, medical, and legal issues that come with this new role. Many grandparents are raising their grandchildren because of family complications such as teenage pregnancy, death, divorce, substance abuse, incarceration, abandonment, AIDS, and child abuse. This is a growing population1.4 million children (almost one child in twenty) live in a household headed by their grandparent/s with no parent present. Are you raising your grandchildren? You are not alone!

Make sure you spend an adequate amount of time on each.
HOW TO REVISE.
Find somewhere quiet to work.
Plan your day.
Do some work in the morning, afternoon and evening, but give yourself time for relaxation. USE THIS BOOKLET TO MAKE REVISION NOTES. Each point will spark off other ideas in your head. You should be able to write a paragraph about each key point. Gather information from your exercise books. Make your cards/sheets short enough to memorise. Here is an example : This is an expanded version of the GCSE syllabus. Key questions are in bold. CAUSES OF THE FIRST WORLD WAR. -THE LONG TERM CAUSES OF THE WAR : - THE MAIN EVENTS LEADING TO WAR WHY DID TENSION INCREASE IN EUROPE 1900-1914? WHY DID THE ASSASSINATION AT SARAJEVO LEAD TO THE OUTBREAK OF WAR IN 1914?

Electronic Reference
at Morris County Library May 2005
After 8 years of offering e-ref in April for the first time electronic and extended reference (patron calls or comes in, question is not ready reference, is written up for work and call back) were equal. 2004 e-ref was 173% more than e-ref 2002. 2004 update: E-ref, as we call it, has more than doubled in the now 7 years we've been offering it, but is still only running at the rate of 1.315 question/thousand resident (in the county), year-to-date. Some of this may be because every town has it's own town library, the county library serving as an extra service layer, a sort of floating super-agency. (The county is an area of 469 sq miles, within which there are 38 town libraries, 4 academic [Drew, Fairleigh Dickinson, County College and College of St Elizabeth], an excellent hospital library and a specialty Judaica collection.) The low service rate (SR) remains, however, an indicator that e-ref is not a great public draw. Extended reference (can't answer in five minutes on the phone, so write it up for work and later call back) comes in at rate of 3.1/1,000 (2.4 phone ref: 1 e-ref).
Efficiency rate (ER) is 1.5: for each 1 question in, 1.5 return/replies, meaning some interchanges require clarification or patrons' follow up first reply with additional refinements. Most susceptible to looping are the genealogy queries.

It is estimated that provisions of the law which prohibit American ships from traveling to belligerent ports or through combat areas will result in withdrawal of approximately 90 American ships of about 600,000 tons. New services will be found for many of these vessels. But whether or not it will be possible to use all of them will not be known for some time.
