International Taxpayer - American Samoa
American Samoa has its own separate and independent tax system. Although its tax laws are modeled on the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, there are certain differences. Requests for advice about matters connected with Samoan taxation should be sent to: Tax Division
Government of American Samoa
Pago Pago, American Samoa 96799 Residents of American Samoa If you are a U.S. citizen and a resident of American Samoa, you must report your gross income from worldwide sources on your Samoan tax return. If you report non-Samoan source income on your Samoan tax return, you can claim a credit against your Samoan tax liability for income taxes paid on that income to the United States, a foreign country, or another possession. If you are a resident of American Samoa for part of the tax year and you then leave American Samoa, you must file a tax return with American Samoa for the part of the year you were present in American Samoa. Bona fide residents of American Samoa include military personnel whose official home of record is American Samoa. Nonresidents of American Samoa If you are a nonresident of American Samoa, you should report only income from Samoan sources on your Samoan tax return. U.S. citizens residing in American Samoa are considered residents of American Samoa for income tax purposes.

Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management
American Samoa Coastal Management Program Lead Agency: American Samoa Department of Commerce Home to one of the world's largest tuna fishing and canning industries, American Samoa tackles coastal concerns of fishery habitat loss, coastal hazards (including hurricanes, flooding and erosion), marine debris, and solid waste. Agriculture, such as pig farming, is also an important industry in the coastal area. The coastal management program oversees all construction or earth-moving activities on the island, since all land in the entire territory, and the sea within three miles of the shoreline, is included in the coastal zone. The territory has a traditional land tenure system in which an extended family owns land and the family chief divides use of the land between family members. With 90 percent of the land controlled this way, coastal managers strive to include traditional leaders in the management process. Eight local governmental agencies review major land activities. For more information on the American Samoa Coastal Management Program, please visit:

An annotated checklist of the fishes of American Samoa. provided by Richard C. Wass, Office of Marine and Wildlife Resources, american samoa government.
http://www.nps.gov/npsa/NPSAfish/
Scientific Names Samoan Common Names English Common Names Browse Pictures This page was developed from the National Park Service Inventory and Monitoring websitean intranet site as yet not generally available to the public. The data are from a report on fishes of the National Park of American Samoa dated November 2, 2001. The NPS Inventorying and Monitoring site is a work in progress at this time. It is expected to be on line to the public in a couple more years. This webpage, "Fishes of the National Park of American Samoa," is simply an alphabetical list of the scientific names of fishes recorded from waters in and near the park. Each fish name is linked (click on the scientific name) to its individual Family. Within the Family, if a fish is illustrated click on the thumbnail image to link to the large photograph page.. There are also indexes to both Samoan and English common names of at least the fish families. Names in these indexes are linked to the Family pages (click on the name). Macrons are not included over the Samoan names since their transmission becomes garbled with different internet browsers. This fish page is a work in progress. More illustrations will be added. Eventually it will be replaced by the National Park Service's Inventory and Monitoring website with live links to bibliographic sources for the records, and in some cases species distribution maps.

Webmaster Reserve a book as of today 7/20/00 BY J. ROBERT SHAFFER Approximately 3,500 years before Columbus came to America, ancestors of the earliest Polynesians discovered a group of islands that would someday be known as Samoa. In the ensuing 2,000 years their descendants created and established Samoa's culture and way of life. The Centennial Edition of American Samoa 100 Years Under the United States Flag looks back at the century of American involvement in these islands. Dozens of Samoan cultural artifacts have been placed on these pages, illustrating particular aspects of traditional Samoan life. Many of these artifacts have never been presented before in color tableaux that give such a rich insight into the material wealth and culture of American Samoa. LOOK !!! First Qualified 500 reservations for the book will pay $34.95 USD. The official press release for the book in October 2000 will list at $39.95 USD.
