Biographies
HBC has developed biographies on some of the individuals involved in the Revolution. The early American presidents were involved (Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison). Another president (Jackson) fought in the War as a boy. Two important monarchs (George III and Louis XV). Also surprisingly a leading Roman orator (Cicero) was amazingly influential, especially in devising the Constitution which followed the War.
John Adams (America, 1735-1826)
John Adams was the second American president. He was a giant of the Revolution. He is, however, now the least remembered of the early presidents. There is no monument to Adams in the Mall in Washington. Most Americans cannot name a single accomplishment of Adams. Yet there has been a reconsideratin of Adams in recent years and his reputation has grown, especially his role in moving America toward Revolution and his diplomatic triumphs. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment as President was in keeping the young nation from declaring war on Revolutioinary France which would have pribably ended disaterously and may have made Jefferson's Louisana Purchase difficult. Adams also played an important role in the development of the political party ststem in America. An important role of an American president is as leader of his party. It was Adams' failure here that was to doom his presidency an reelection.

Library Guide for POLS 4213 - Political Parties (Presidential Politics Assignment) The NSU John Vaughan Library provides access to many books and several databases which can be useful for the presidential politics assignment. The most efficient approach for discovering what the library has in terms of paper and electronic books is to consult the online library catalog . There are a number of approaches that can be taken when searching for books in the catalog that deal with presidential campaigns and elections, and one of the best is to select "subject" as the search category. Once "subject" has been selected, enter a valid subject heading to complete the search. This could include any of the following word subjects, which would be entered into the subject search box:
  • Presidents United States election Political oratory Primaries United States V oting research United States Presidential candidates United States Elections United States
For example: Searching by keyword can also be useful as a supplement to subject word searching. When searching multiple keywords it may be best to use the "Advanced Search" mode. For example, if you are interested in finding books on the 2000 presidential election, enter

Politically focused web sites are in abundance on the Web, and those dedicated specifically to the American presidents are certainly not rare.
Buzzle Staff Editor, 7/6/2000 With the Presidency being the most high-profile political office in the United States, it comes as no surprise that there are a wealth of web sites offering information about the office itself and the 41 men who have held it. Presidential web sites vary greatly in style and approach and contain all sorts of interesting facts and trivia, from serious and respectful to irreverent and witty. Many are devoted to simply providing biographies, offering comprehensive information about a president’s life before and after taking office.
Others contain wonderful photographs that portray presidents in a variety of situations, giving us rare glimpses into their personal and professional lives. The multimedia capabilities of the Web make it possible for visitors to some sites to listen to sound clips of landmark moments in presidential history, hear audio clips of various presidential pooches, and view QuickTime or RealVideo clips of presidents and their families. Online galleries display exhibits of oil paintings, candid photographs, and an occasional daguerreotype to help us obtain a visual sense of these men who were so important to American history.
