Debate Diversification of U.S. medical schools via affirmative action implementation Shaheen Emmanuel Lakhan Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA BMC Medical Education The electronic version of this article is the complete one and can be found online at: http://www.biomedcentral.com/1472-6920/3/6 Received Accepted Published Keywords: affirmative action, race-conscious, non-cognitive factors, medical admissions, diversity, consumer choice, minority patients. Outline Abstract Abstract Background Discussion Conclusion ... Pre-publication history Background The diversification of medical school student and faculty bodies via race-conscious affirmative action policy is a societal and legal option for the U.S. Supreme Court has recently ruled its use constitutional. This paper investigates the implications of affirmative action, particularly race-conscious compared to race-blind admissions policy; explains how alternative programs are generally impractical; and provides a brief review of the history and legality of affirmative action in the United States. Discussion Selection based solely on academic qualifications such as GPA and MCAT scores does not achieve racial and ethnic diversity in medical school, nor does it adequately predict success as practicing physicians. However, race-conscious preference yields greater practice in underserved and often minority populations, furthers our biomedical research progression, augments health care for minority patients, and fosters an exceptional medical school environment where students are better able to serve an increasingly multicultural society.

http://www.indigochild.com/schools.html
In the first Indigo book, we supplied suggestions regarding two existing worldwide alternate schooling systems for the Indigo children. This page not only identifies each of them, but gives you many, many more from other sources. By "alternate," we meant an alternative choice from existing systems that are in-place but failing to see the changing needs of the new children. Not all public schools are poor for Indigos, and we have actually seen tremendous changes of awareness in isolated (usually smaller) schools due to an advanced thinking superintendent, or a system which allows the teachers great flexibility. We celebrate these efforts, but alas, this is not the norm. We told you that ultimately we'd like to have a list of schools all over the world, listed by country and city. This web page is a start to that, providing a way to view expanded or NEW information, NOW. This is where YOU come in. If you feel there are some existing systems that we should have included, or you have information about wonderful Indigo-type schools in your city, go ahead and Email us. If your suggestion is viable, then we will include it on this web site. The list of schools from readership is the last section on this page

The World Peace Society of Australia's approach to peace
is through non-violence and non-fear. We fundamentally believe that a lasting world peace will not be initiated politically , it will begin first in the hearts and minds of each of us . Until we have peace within our families and our communities and most importantly ourselves, no politician will ever have the power to bring peace. ( click here for more about us September 11 has been a call to humanity, to empathize with our brother and sister countries in peace. No war can bring peace. A small child is taught every day that violence at home, or in the playground, or on the street will not solve problems , so how do our government leaders believe that violence and fear between nations will bring a lasting world peace? Surely it is not our weapons that stop war, nor escalation of violence that brings peace - it is in the simplest of heart-felt conversations between brothers and sisters of one family in oneness. So all our actions for peace are centred on the theme of how "

Chesapeake Alternative School
"MAKING A DIFFERENCE!"
"Students, Like Sea Stars, Should be Appreciated for Their Uniqueness."
Founded in 1971, Chesapeake Alternative School is one of the oldest alternative schools in the state of Virginia. Chesapeake Alternative School provides a structured learning environment and offers a variety of methods and materials that meet the individual needs of students, while maintaining clearly defined limits and strictly enforced consequences for inappropriate behavior. The student body consisting of the 6th through 10th grades is divided into groups according to grade levels. Students remain in the same group with constant supervision through out the entire day. When students exchange classes, they walk with a teacher at the appropriate time. Chesapeake Alternative School offers students the opportunity to acquire the academic and social skills that will allow them to return to their home schools and be successful. The curriculum is that of the Chesapeake Public Schools with emphasis on behavior modification, individualization, and small group instruction. The Point Card System is a vital part of the school's program.
