The Sundance Story
Since 1995, Sundance has served customers throughout the southeast by offering the highest quality Renewable Energy and Radiant Floor Systems for both residential and commercial applications. The work of Co-founders Dave and Sierra Hollister is inspired by a grand vision of the future, with the long-term goal of creating and growing a center for sustainable living. Through the promotion of sustainable living, alternative building techniques, and alternative energy technologies we are transforming civilization by shifting away from consumption of resources that are damaging to the environment and to the economic and public health, towards renewable energy technologies that are beneficial for future generations to come. Renewable energy is at the heart of the Sundance mission. We take pride in designing systems that are user-friendly, reliable and code compliant. Our technical expertise includes solar, wind and hydro electric, as well as solar hot water and radiant floor heating. At Sundance we provide our valued customers with the wisdom and technical knowledge for integrating renewable energy into their lives. We emphasize a thorough design process, which ensures that we develop systems that truly reflect the needs and desires of our customers. Sundance has years of combined experience and practical knowledge of design and installation that maximizes efficiency while minimizing maintenance.

The Alternative Energy Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, educational organization. Historically, AEI's mission has focused on two areas: (1) raising consciousness about the dangers of fossil fuel dependency and the viable alternatives to fossil fuels, and (2) linking consumers with suppliers of alternative energy. However, AEI is expanding its focus on the basis that there is no progressive change toward sustainability without taking a systemic approach that includes one essential element: community. As a result, AEI is carving out a unique niche of raising consciousness about community sustainability and providing action response opportunities for individuals throughout the world. The Asia Alternative Energy Program (ASTAE) was established in 1992 to mainstream alternative energy (renewable energy and energy efficiency) in the World Bank's power sector lending operations in Asia. Since its inception, ASTAE has and continues to support a broad portfolio of alternative energy projects and activities throughout Asia. While lending operations are funded primarily by the World Bank and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), ASTAE has relied on a number of donors and partners to support its work program. Sierra Solar Systems Emergency Preparedness
Providing alternative energy solutions since 1980. We specialize in solar electric, wind, hydropower, and solar hot water systems for homes, boat, RV's and wells. We are based in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of California. Shipping is available anywhere. What do you need for emergency power for when the grid power goes out?
A good quality inverter/charger, such as the Trace DR or SW series, and a properly-sized bank of batteries may be all you need. Your batteries will be kept on float charge when the grid is working, and if it goes down, your loads can be automatically transferred to your inverter/battery system without missing a beat. Then, when the electric company is back on line, your loads will be automatically switched back to the grid.
What to do if you are concerned with the reliability of your power supply.... Alternative energy is not for everyone. It takes an extra amount of involvement and extra investment in the short run. Call it an investment in the future. What is required is living in a more conscious fashion than the average person. It implies taking an active part in how we use and produce power. If we'd prefer to let someone else, i.e. the power company, make these energy decisions for us, so be it. Rather than feeling powerless, some of us would rather take responsibility for where our power comes from and how it is used. It's just a part of reclaiming our personal power from the powers that be. For more information on emergency preparation, please visit the following pages........

Alternative Energy Sources
by Walter Youngquist, Consulting Geologist
Eugene, Oregon, October 2000
Oil fuels the modern world. No other substance can equal the enormous impact which the use of oil has had on so many people, so rapidly, in so many ways, and in so many places around the world. Oil in its various refined derivative forms, such as gasoline, kerosene, and diesel fuel, has a unique combination of many desirable and useful characteristics. These include a current availability in abundance, a currently high net energy recovery, a high energy density, ease of transportation and storage, relative safety, and great versatility in end use. Oil is also useful as more than an energy source. It is the basis for the manufacture of petrochemical products including plastics, medicines, paints, and myriad other useful materials. Finally, the asphalt "bottoms" from refineries have converted millions of miles of muddy trails around the world into paved highways on which transport vehicles fueled by oil run. Alternative energy sources must be compared with oil in all these various attributes when their substitution for oil is considered. None appears to completely equal oil.

Terrorism: Industry and the Public Respond
Sunday, March 30, 2003, 2:30 - 5:30 PM
It's in the news and on everyone's mind - the possibility that terrorist attacks on petroleum, chemical and nuclear facilities could cause catastrophic damage and releases of hazardous materials. How vulnerable are these facilities and what can be done to protect them? How can we balance the public's right to know against the danger that terrorists will easily access such public information? Leaders from industry, government, public interest groups and others will discuss these and other issues in this very important forum. Toward a Sustainable Water Supply
Tuesday, April 1, 2003, 1:15 - 3:15 PM

Water was once treated as an inexhaustible resource. But few people hold that belief today in the face of droughts in the United States, Africa and elsewhere; conflicts between states and nations over river flows and water rights; and competing claims for water by communities, industry, fishing interests and hydro-electric power generators. A panel of four speakers representing the diverse perspectives of government, engineering, industry and society will present the facts and address the issues involved in the development of more effective water use technologies and practices.
Panelists include:
