... The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs Allergy is a medical term generally used to describe the symptoms that result from the body’s reaction to some foreign substance, called an allergen. Allergens (such as pollen, dust, pet dander, and some foods) are not usually harmful in themselves but trigger reactions in the body that result in a variety of physical discomforts. Symptoms of an allergy may include itching, skin rashes or hives, watery eyes, sore throat, sneezing, coughing, swelling of the lips or mouth, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. What causes an allergy? An allergy develops through the reactions of the immune system, the same system that protects the body from invading organisms and substances. With an allergy, the immune system is overly sensitive to a foreign substance triggering reactions and attempts to remove that substance from the body. During this process, production of natural body chemicals result in many cold-like symptoms. Who has allergies?

A Practical Primer for People with Allergies to Milk

Pop Tart Victory! Kellogs has decided NOT to introduce whey to their fruit-flavored or brown-sugar cinnamon pop tarts due to the negative feedback from the milk-allergy community. Please phone, write or send email to thank them for being good corporate citizens. Casein is a protein found in the milk of all mammals. Some people (like my husband ) are allergic to it, and it is to these poor soulswho will never, ever enjoy another ice creamthat this page is dedicated.

.......... ALERT!
A new, low-calorie sweetener is coming on the market soon. The good news: it tastes great. The bad news: it's derived from whey. The name is "tagatose" . It goes under the brand name Naturlose . I've contacted the manufacturer to get information about how dangerous it might be for people with milk allergy. (Be aware that it may show up in toothpastes, mouthwashes, foods, and any other places where a low-calorie sweetener would be used.) Tests suggest that it is completely safe for people with milk allergy, but you should read the information sent by the business development manager for tagatose and make your own decision.

Welcome Dr. Gupta is a board certified physician who specializes in the treatment of allergies and asthma. He has been practicing for over twenty years. He has offices in Glendale and An allergy is an abnormal reaction of the body to substances from the outside environment. Such substances may be taken into the body through the skin (insect bites, carpet, animal contact, etc.); by mouth (foods and beverages); or through the nose and lungs (pollens, house dust, animal dander, etc.). The substances that set off the allergic reaction are called allergens. Allergies can cause asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, eczema, and hay fever with symptoms ranging from a runny nose or eyes, wheezing episodes, nasal or chest congestion, frequent colds, cough, bronchitis, itching, sinus headaches, post-nasal drip, frequent sore throats, recurrent ear infections, burning and itching of the eyes to bouts of sneezing. Asthma is a complex disorder of airways. Several factors may cause asthma, and one of them is allergic reaction. This web site provides general information on these common conditions. It is not intended to diagnose or treat a particular patient. Please consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment of your particular condition.
