Converse College announces eight distance learning courses for teachers wishing to enhance their math content knowledge. Intended for certified teachers or for those wishing to gain certification, these courses present mathematics content that correlates to NCTM standards for middle and secondary education.
Each course awards 3 semester hours of graduate credit (500 level or higher) from the School of Graduate Studies. These are not educational methods courses.
Videotapes, featuring an exemplary secondary math teacher, are provided for each course. The Practice Sets, Quizzes and the Final Exam are taken over the Internet course web site. There are no Registration deadlines - enroll at any time, work at your own pace and take up to nine months to complete course requirements. Courses can be taken concurrently and transcripts are available as soon as a course is completed.

Foster Baker received his B.S. in Education from Northwest Missouri State University and his M.S. from the University of Kansas, with additional work at the University of Kansas City and The University of Iowa. Mr. Baker taught for over thirty years in the secondary schools of Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa. He has also taught at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. About the coursewriter and instructor
Daniel D. Anderson , Professor of Mathematics, received his Ph.D. in 1974 from the University of Chicago. He has taught at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the University of Missouri at Columbia, and has been with the Department of Mathematics at The University of Iowa since 1977. Professor Anderson has published over one hundred research articles in commutative algebra, and has lectured on his research in Africa, Asia, and Europe. His teaching experience ranges from courses in pre-algebra to graduate courses in commutative ring theory. He is married, has a daughter, son-in-law and grandson who live in South Carolina, and enjoys collecting Iowa trade tokens (tokens issued by pool halls, dairies, bars, general stories, etc.), hiking, and picnicking.
