SA Responds to Flood
Calgary – For the second weekend in a row, The Salvation Army is working tirelessly in flood stricken areas of southern Alberta. “It seemed like we had just finished our work in High River last week, when we were called out there again,” says Major Gary Brown of The Salvation Army. “But this time we were not only activated in High River on Friday night, but in Okotoks as well. We have fed hundreds of evacuated residents, volunteers and emergency workers in both of those communities. A team was also activated for a short time in Bragg Creek, on Saturday.” Following the closure of the Reception Centres in these southern communities, The Salvation Army has been called into action in Calgary, supporting the front line emergency responders working around the clock. “We are have been set up at the Emergency Command Centre on a 24 hour basis, providing food and refreshment to city staff, firefighters and police officers. We will continue to offer this service for as long as it is required,” adds Brown. “It is the least we can do to assist those in the forefront of this emergency.”

LIBRARY UPDATE
WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
The following article is from the February 2, 2005 issue of the Beaverlodge newspaper "The Advertiser", Recreation Ramblings by Randy Boettcher. Library Lament Going into the January 24, 2005 meeting of Town Council, the new library project was still $146,000 short of reaching 60% of the total project cost by February 1st, as required by the Legacy Grant people. At the meeting, it was moved that Council commit the proceeds from the sale of the existing library towards the construction costs of a new library. The motion was defeated, pretty much snuffing out the "last gasp" for the project as presently proposed. Where do we go from here?
