Alberta Alberta is the western most "prairie province". It also happens to be where my family and I live. Edmonton is the capital city. The Rockie Mountains run down the border of Alberta and British Columbia and extend into the United States. Alberta became a province of Canada in 1905. You can find out a lot of interesting information about the province at http://www.gov.ab.ca/ Free Printable Worksheets: Alberta flag worksheet Alberta map and response worksheet Alberta provincial bird with labels worksheet Alberta provincial bird coloring page ... The Provincial Flag
The Alberta provincial flag was adopted on June 1, 1968. It depicts the provincial shield in the center of a blue background. From top to bottom, the shield shows St. George's Cross, blue sky, snow-capped mountains, green hills, prairie and wheat sheaves at the very bottom.
The Provincial Flower
The wild rose was declared Alberta's provincial flower in 1930. The wild rose is easily found in the province, even in some of the more natural areas inside its cities.

Birds of Alberta
About This Section:
This section is divided based on the season in which the birds can be seen. Alberta is a cold and snowy province during the winter. Summer residents are the most plentiful but the year round residents include some of our favorites:
  • Year Round Residents
    Winter Residents
    Summer Residents
    Transients (migrate through Alberta)
Accidental/Vagrants (outside their typical range when seen in Alberta)
  • Each section is further divided so the birds are grouped into their orders and families in other words, all the different types of ducks (for example) are grouped together. A few of the bird names in the Year Round Residents have a link. By clicking this link, you'll be taken to more information about that bird, photos of the bird and/or printable worksheets.
About Us: Our family is by no means made up of expert bird watchers (4 and 8 year olds aren't the stealthiest bird watchers), but our joy every time we manage to identify a bird more than makes up for our lack of training. Kaitlyn (age 4) is the one who started our bird watching hobby and she has eagerly identified everything from Canada Geese to Rufous Hummingbirds. Her love of birds has prompted the rest of us to learn all we can about the fine feathered friends in our province hopefully our answers can keep up with her questions! Scientific Stuff: Scientists group plants and animals in order to keep things organized. This method of grouping is called the Linnaean System which is made up of an organism's Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species. The system is a hierarchy. The more parts of the system that match for two animals or plants, the more similar those animals are.
