NWS Input to NOAA's Weekly Report - March 29 I. MAJOR POLICY INITIATIVES, NEW REGULATIONS , ANNOUNCEMENTS, and HOT ISSUES Final Closure Notices Posted for Six National Weather Service (NWS) Offices. As part of its decade-long modernization and restructuring, the NWS has replaced obsolete technology and restructured the organization. During this process, 161 smaller offices were considered for closure. Final notices for six weather service office closures were published in the March 29, 2001, "Federal Register." This is the final step in the closure process for these offices. The offices are Olympia and Wenatchee, WA; Riverside, Redding, and the Los Angeles aviation offices, CA; and the Fairbanks residual office, AK. This brings the total number of closed offices to 154.
